Hall of Fame
Jerome A. "Jerry" Dahlberg, well-known sportscaster throughout the Red River, was born and raised in Minneapolis, Minnesota. After graduating from South High School, Dahlberg entered the U.S. Air Force and became a radioman on a B-24 during World War II. Following his military service, he pursued a radio career. He graduated from Brown Institute in Minneapolis and took his first job in commercial radio in 1947 with KTRE and then came to Crookston in 1948.
Dahlberg's voice was first heard on KROX in April 1948. He broadcast basketball, football, hockey and amateur baseball in the height of its popularity. Dahlberg became part owner and remained with KROX until January 1996, when he sold his interest to Frank Fee, current owner.
In his 48 years with KROX, Dahlberg has received numerous honors and awards. He is currently a member of the Minnesota Basketball Coaches Association Hall of Fame, having broadcast the Minnesota State Basketball Tournaments for 44 consecutive years. He has also been inducted into the Red River Valley Winter Shows Hall of Fame after broadcasting from the shows for 45 years. Mayville State University's Athletic Hall of Fame also has referred to Dahlberg as the "Voice of the Comets." In addition, he received a Citation of Honor from the State of Minnesota and Governor Rudy Perpich for his dedication and volunteer service to Crookston Civil Defense. He received a Distinguished Service Award for community involvement with high school athletics from the Minnesota State High School Athletic Directors Association and an award from the Minnesota State Football Coaches Association for his contributions to high school football. He is a recipient of many other community honors.
Dahlberg has been involved in many community and state organizations serving as a board member on many of them. His service and dedication to all of them is exemplary.
Dahlberg and his late wife, Dorothy, were the parents of two children, Karrie and David. He also has four grandchildren.
