Chancellor Emeritus Donald Sargeant came to the University of Minnesota, Crookston in 1970 serving as chair of the agriculture division, as academic dean from 1973 to 1985, and served as Chancellor from 1985 to 2003. Sargeant was instrumental in the transition from a two-year to a four-year institution as well as enhancing the athletic program from a junior college, to a four-year NAIA athletic program, and ultimately to NCAA Division II. Sargeant was a strong advocate of the athletic program and felt it helped give the student a unique balance between academics and athletics. Don and his wife, Mary Beth, reside in Erskine, Minn., and have two sons, Doug and Dan.
