Box Score Grand Forks, N.D. – Minnesota Crookston softball was oh so close to their first ever win over a Division I school, but North Dakota would score four runs in the final two innings, upping the Golden Eagles, 4-3.
Minnesota Crookston falls to 20-30 on the year.
Minnesota Crookston would get off to a fast start, as
Riley Blake (Fr., P/OF, Las Vegas, Nev.) would lead off the game with a single and
Whitnee Curry (Sr., IF, Lincoln, Neb.) would reach on an error by the second baseman.
One batter later,
Rayna French (So., C, La Salle, Manitoba) would reach on another error, scoring Blake and giving the Golden Eagles a 1-0 lead.
Irelyn Spencer (R-So., IF, Rapid City, S.D.) would continue her outstanding season and torrid RBI pace, driving in Curry with a sacrifice fly.
The game would stay 2-0, but in the fourth, the Golden Eagles would add a third run on an RBI double by
Chayse Doering (Fr., OF, Shakopee, Minn.), scoring
Madisen Yandle (Fr., SS, Lakeville, Minn.) all the way from first.
Minnesota Crookston would be unable to add on and see the Fighting Hawks walk them off in the seventh, scoring two runs in both the sixth and seventh innings.
Minnesota Crookston finished with seven hits and left eight runners on base.
