Box Score 2 Sioux Center, Iowa – After a weekend hiatus, Minnesota Crookston softball was back in action for a pair of games with Dordt University and Mount Marty.
In game one with the Defenders, Minnesota Crookston won their third one-run game of the season, winning 3-2.
The Golden Eagles would fall in game two in another low scoring affair to Mount Marty, 2-1.
Minnesota Crookston moves to 3-5 on the year.
Game One
Sydney McMurdie (Fr., P/UT, Twin Falls, Idaho) would start her fantastic day in the circle by setting down the host school in order.
In the bottom of the first, Minnesota Crookston would see the
Chayse Doering (Fr., OF, Shakopee, Minn.) reach on a walk, steal a base and score on a
Whitnee Curry (Sr., MIF, Lincoln, Neb.) RBI single. The maroon and gold would have two runners in scoring position with no outs, but would only score the single run.
McMurdie would continue to be fantastic, as she would carry a no hitter into the fifth inning.
Finally, Dordt would score a run in the top of the sixth, but that is all they would scrape across.
The Golden Eagles would put pressure on the Defenders in the bottom of the sixth, as they would load the bases with one out.
Brittney Mengel (Sr., OF, Sullivan, Wis.) would drive in
Charlotte Dombrowski (Jr., P/OF, Valparaiso, Ind.) on a fielder's choice, giving the Golden Eagles a 2-1 lead. One hitter later,
Haley Koch (Sr., C, Mondamin, Iowa) would lace a single up the middle, which would score
Riley Blake (Fr., P/OF, Las Vegas, Nev.) for a 3-1 lead.
Alexa Guilford (Jr., P, Crystal City, Manitoba) would come in the top of the seventh and slam the door for her first save of the season.
Minnesota Crookston finished with seven hits in the game, led by
Hannah Trzinski (Fr., P, Stevens Point, Wis.), who went 2-3 in the game. Doering, Curry and
Rayna French (So., C. La Salle, Manitoba) each had a hit in the top of the order.
In the circle, it was the McMurdie show, who improved to 2-0 on the year after giving up two runs on three hits in six innings of work. Guilford picked up her first save of the season.
Game Two
Minnesota Crookston would strike first once again, as Madison Yandle (Fr., SS, Lakeville, Minn.) would steal third and score on an error for a 1-0 Golden Eagle lead in the top of the second.
The Lancers would pitch well and would eventually score two runs in the bottom of the fifth, taking a one run lead.
Minnesota Crookston would have a pair of runners on in the sixth, but would be unable to score.
The Golden Eagles would get out of a bases loaded jam in the bottom of the sixth and Doering would lead off with a double, but she advanced as far as third and the comeback was stifled by Mount Marty in the 2-1 loss.
Minnesota Crookston finished with seven hits in the game from seven different hitters.
Dombrowski was outstanding in the circle, going five innings, while giving up four hits and two runs.
Gabrielle Gomez (Fr., P/1B, Lakewood, Calif.) made her collegiate debut and didn't give up a run in an inning of work.
