CROOKSTON, Minn. - The University of Minnesota Crookston women's basketball team will open up their 2015-16 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) road schedule against University of Minnesota Duluth and St. Cloud State University this weekend. The Golden Eagles enter the weekend with a 4-1 (1-0 NSIC) mark, while UMD is 0-4 (0-1 NSIC) and St. Cloud State is 1-3 (1-0 NSIC). The Golden Eagles will take on UMD Fri., Dec. 4 at 6 p.m. at Romano Gymnasium. They will battle St. Cloud State Sat., Dec. 5 at 4 p.m. at Halenbeck Hall.

#Tidbits- The UMC women's basketball team is off to a 4-1 start on the 2015-16 season. The Golden Eagles are coming off an 80-52 win over Bemidji State Saturday. UMC had a balanced effort with five players who scored in double-figures led by 20 points from
Katrina Nordick and 15 from
Micaela Noga. UMC will look to continue their strong start to the season against St. Cloud State and Minnesota Duluth.
- UMC has a pair of true freshmen in
Alison Hughes and
Caitlin Michaelis who have made an immediate impact for the Golden Eagles. Hughes has started all five games and is averaging 10.4 points and 2.8 rebounds per game, while shooting 45.0 percent from beyond the arc.
- UMC's pair of sophomore starters
Emily Gruber and
Micaela Noga have continued to improve in their second season with the Golden Eagles. Gruber is coming off a double-double against Bemidji State, while Noga had 15. Gruber comes in averaging 9.4 points and 7.8 rebounds per game, while Noga is averaging 9.2 points and 4.2 rebounds per game.
- In the post, UMC has a pair of back-ups who have done well off the bench for the Golden Eagles in
Isieoma Odor and
Megan Taylor. Odor comes in averaging 5.2 points per game and 3.8 rebounds per game, while Taylor is averaging 4.4 points and 2.8 rebounds per game.
- The Golden Eagles have limited teams defensively this season to 56.2 points per game, while shooting 25.3 percent from beyond the arc, 37.9 percent from the field and 52.8 percent from the charity stripe.
- Minnesota Duluth is in their first season under Mandy Pearson. The Bulldogs are off to an 0-4 start. They are without one of their returning starters Taylor Meyer. UMD has struggled to score on the season, being limited to just 49.2 points per game. They have been led by junior post Allyson Harris, who is averaging 12.3 points and 7.0 rebounds per game. Kenzie Kane comes in averaging 12.0 points and 4.3 rebounds per game. The Bulldogs are shooting just 31.4 percent from the field and 25.0 percent from beyond the arc.
- St. Cloud State returns almost their whole team from last season's roster. The Huskies played a tough non-conference schedule and are 1-3 on the season. They opened up conference with a win over UMD. The Huskies are coached by Lori Fish, who is in her eighth season. They are a long team with strong play in the post. Karissa LeCaptain leads the post with 14.8 points and 6.0 rebounds per game, while Lexy Petermann is averaging 10.0 points and 6.8 rebounds per game. At guard, Chelsea Nooker does a little bit of everything, averaging 12.0 points, 8.5 rebounds and 4.3 assists per game.
- The Huskies have shot 38.6 percent from the field on the season and 30.6 percent from beyond the arc on the season. They are out-rebounding their foes 40.0 to 34.5.
