Box Score BAYAMON, Puerto Rico – The University of Minnesota Crookston women's basketball team opened the 2015-16 season with a dominant 75-33 win over the University of Puerto Rico-Rio Piedras Fri., Nov. 13 at the Complejo Deportivo University of Puerto Rico-Bayamon. The Golden Eagles moved to 1-0 on the season, while Puerto Rico-Rio Piedras fell to 1-0. Puerto Rico-Rio Piedras in an NCAA Division II independent in Rio Piedras, Puerto Rico.
The Golden Eagles were led by a balanced attack with five players scoring in double figures. The Golden Eagles were led by a double-double by
Emily Gruber (So., F/C, Monticello, Minn.), who finished with 10 points and 10 boards. Freshman
Alison Hughes (G, Janesville, Wis.) got off to a strong start with 13 points including 3 three-pointers.
Alexa Thielman (Sr., G, Buffalo, Minn.) added 11 points including going 3-of-6 from beyond the arc. Freshman
Caitlin Michaelis (G, Marshfield, Wis.) also got off to a strong start with 10 points and six boards, while NSIC North Preseason Player of the Year
Katrina Nordick (Sr., F, Perham, Minn.) added 10 points and five boards.
The Golden Eagles shot 14-of-34 from the field for 41 percent and were 11-of-27 for 40.7 percent from beyond the arc. UMC had 10 of 11 players score who played in the game.
Megan Taylor (R-Jr., F/C, Estelline, S.D.) came off the bench with seven points and six rebounds.
Puerto Rico-Rio Piedras shot 13-of-47 from the field for 27.7 percent and shot just 1-of-16 for 6.3 percent. The Golden Eagles dominated the boards over Puerto Rico-Rio Piedras 54-27. They were led by eight points on 3-of-8 from the field for Thalia Torres. Jacqueline Rosario added five points.
The Golden Eagles will continue their Puerto Rico trip by playing University of Puerto Rico-Bayamon at 4 p.m. C.T. Sat., Nov. 14 at the Complejo Deportivo on the campus of the University of Puerto Rico-Bayamon.
