Minnesota Crookston Softball Welcomes In Bemidji State for Home Opener on Monday

Crookston, Minn. -- Minnesota Crookston softball is set for their home opener on Monday afternoon, as they welcome in Highway-2 rival Bemidji State.The game was scheduled for Sunday, but pushed back 24 hours due to projected weather conditions.

 

The Golden Eagles will look to halt a brief four game losing streak.

Minnesota Crookston (11-32, 5-13 NSIC)

The Golden Eagle offense has struggled as of late, scoring just seven runs in their last five games and 17 in their last seven games, but that was ballooned by an eight run output against UMary in extra innings.

 

Rayna French has had a really nice season, leading the way with a .320 average. French is hitting .417 in conference play. Freshmen Emily Kalina and Megan Surgenor are each hitting .306 on the season. Underclassmen Chayse Doering and Valerie VanZant are hitting .298 and .292, respectively. The Golden Eagles have 15 triples on the season, led by five from Doering.

 

In the circle, the Golden Eagles have relied on Charlotte Dombrowski for 10 starts, which is second, behind Megan Surgenor and her 11 starts. Dombrowski has six complete games and is 5-7 on the season.

 

Bemidji State (10-31, 4-14 NSIC)

Bemidji State is coming off a home split with MSU Moorhead and are 4-14 in conference play this season.

 

Bemidji State is hitting .266 as a team and are led by Jackie Larsen and Alayna DeGraef, who are hitting .379 and .376, respectively. DeGraef leads the Beavers with 21 runs knocked in and eight doubles. The Beavers average 2.9 runs per game, which is 245th in the nation out of 265 teams.

 

The pitching staff for BSU has a team ERA above 5.4 and have just three complete games this season. Danica Sarff and Sydney Klusman have combined for 43 appearances and each have made 11 starts on the season. Sarff has walked 64 hitters in 71 innings of work.
