Minnesota Crookston Softball Ramps Back Up With Five Games in Kansas Starting on Friday Morning

Topeka, Kan. -- Minnesota Crookston softball will hit the road once again for five games at the Washburn Invitational, hosted by Washburn University. The Golden Eagles will play five games, all against schools from the MIAA.

 

The Golden Eagles had last weekend off.

Minnesota Crookston (0-9)

Minnesota Crookston will look for their first win of the season this weekend in the great state of Kansas. Riley Blake has been really good this season, starting in nine games, all at the designated player spot and is hitting .333 with four RBI. Newcomer Madeleine Murray is hitting .294. The Golden Eagles have hit just .218 through the first nine games.

 

In the circle, Minnesota Crookston has turned to Megan Surgenor and Delaney Penner for eight of the nine games started. Surgenor has a 5.70 ERA, but is 0-5 on the season.

 

The Golden Eagles will look to field better this weekend, as they have averaged about two errors per game through 18 games.

 

Fort Hays State University

Fort Hays State has started its 2026 season with a 2–3 overall record, picking up wins and showing signs of competitiveness in non-conference play.

 

Offensively, the Tigers have been led by Sophomores Hannah Green and Abbey Duarte. Green is averaging .529 at the plate so far this season and has contributed 9 hits and 7 runs. Duarte has made a big presence at the plate while averaging .357 and is leading the team in RBIs with 10. 

 

In the circle, the Tigers are leaning on Freshman Solana Carpenter. Carpenter has pitched 12 innings so far and has given up only 6 runs while recording 12 Strikeouts facing a total of 49 batters. The Freshman has established herself early on in the season and has made a big impact for the Tigers. 


Newman University

Newman enters 2026 with a 3–1 start overall, having opened the season with wins at the Branson Lead Off Classic against Northwestern Oklahoma State, Upper Iowa, and Sioux Falls before a loss to Missouri S&T.

 

Offensively, the Jets are being led by Junior Malie Noda, Noda is Averaging .600 at the plate and has recorded 9 hits, 5 runs, and has contributed 5 RBIs. Noda has made a huge impact at the plate and has proven to be a problem for opponents. 

 

On the mound, Newman's pitchers have logged solid innings, the jets have been able to rely on Senior veteran Katelyn Westover and Red-Shirt Freshman Makenna Majors. Westover and Majors have both pitched in 9 innings for the jets. Westover has given up 6 runs while recording 4 strikeouts. Majors has recorded an ERA of 4.34 and has 1 strikeout under her belt.



 

University of Central Missouri

Central Missouri enters 2026 off an early strong start, carrying a 6–2 overall record heading into the week.

 

Offensively, the Jennies are balanced and productive, with multiple hitters contributing and driving in runs. Bailey Brumley and Taylor Thompson are both leading the team in RBIs contributing 6 each. While Red-Shirt Lexi Blackmon is leading the team with a .400 batting average.

 

Pitching has been a strength as well, with key arms in Ducheneaux, Bebb, and Siebeneck each contributing multiple innings for the Jennies. Riley Bebb is leading the team in Strikeouts with 15 while recording an ERA of 3.00


Emporia State University

The Golden Eagles will find themselves in a tough matchup facing Emporia State who has had a solid start to the 2026 season, as the Hornets hold a 6–4 record on the season.

 

The offense has been productive early on, and the team's bats have generated runs in key situations. Leading the way for the Hornets is standout Junior Brooke Flewelling. Flewelling has been a powerhouse at the plate, driving in 13 runs, while contributing 14 hits and hitting 4 home runs early in the season. 

On the mound, Emporia State's pitching staff has worked to limit opposing offenses, the key so far to the Hornets pitching staff is Freshman Hannah Butterbaugh. Butterbaugh has made a huge impact in the circle early on while recording a 1.57 ERA and striking out 15 while pitching a solid 26 innings for the Hornets. 

 

Washburn University

Washburn has enjoyed a strong start to 2026, posting a 13–2 record and riding a six-game winning streak as the season progresses. The Golden Eagles will find themselves in a tough matchup. 

 

Offensively, the Ichabods have been a consistent scoring team. The Ichabods have multiple offensive weapons in Sais, Ediger and Anderson. Mackenzi Sais is leading the Ichabods with a batting average of .469 while adding 23 hits and contributing 16 runs of her own. 

 

In the circle, Washburn's arms have been split by Sadie Walker and Kierra Goos. Both contributed 46 and 37 innings. Walker records a 1.50 ERA striking out 45 while only allowing 10 runs. Goos recorded an ERA of 2.43 while having 32 strikeouts under her belt and giving up 34 hits throughout the season.
