Box Score 2 Branson, Mo. – Minnesota Crookston softball opened the season with a pair of losses at the Branson Lead-Off Classic, falling 8-4 to Northwestern Oklahoma State and 4-1 to Arkansas at Monticello.
Minnesota Crookston falls to 0-2 on the very young season.
Game One
NWOSU would jump out to an early 6-0 lead, scoring one in the third, two in the fourth and three more in the fifth.
The Golden Eagles would try and chip away. Minnesota Crookston would answer with four in the bottom of the fifth, capped off by a
Chayse Doering (So., OF, Shakopee, Minn.) triple, scoring
Riley Blake (So., OF/P, Las Vegas, Nev.),
Rayna French (Jr., C, La Salle, Manitoba) and
Hannah Trzinski (So., 1B/P, Stevens Point, Wis.), cutting the lead to 6-4.
NWOSU would score two insurance runs in the top of the sixth, which would be enough for the four run win.
In the loss, the Golden Eagles had five hits, including two from
Emily Kalina (Fr., C/OF, Rice Lake, Wis.), playing in her first career game.
Game Two
In game two, the bats would struggle for the Golden Eagles.
UAM would score the first three runs, but Doering would come around to score in the fifth on an RBI walk from
Irelyn Spencer (R-Jr., IF, Rapid City, S.D.).
That would be the only offense for the Golden Eagles, who would fall by three runs and muster up three hits in the loss.

Minnesota Crookston will wrap-up their trip to Branson with two more games tomorrow, starting with Central Oklahoma at 11 AM.
