CROOKSTON, Minn. - The University of Minnesota Crookston jump seat equestrian team competed in a home meet Saturday, March 1, and hosted the IHSA Zone 7, Region 3 Finals Sunday, March 2 at the Charles H. Casey Equine Arena. The Golden Eagles earned High Point Team in Saturday's home show. In addition, Belle Syrett (So., Winnipeg, Manitoba) was named High Point Rider, while Jane Droll (So., Highland Park, Ill.) was selected as the Reserve High Point Rider Saturday.
In Saturday's show, Syrett opened it up by taking first in Open Fences, while Alexandra Wentland (Sr., Colorado Springs, Colo.) notched a third-place finish. In Limit Fences, Droll placed first, while Christina Fiedler (Sr., Burtrum, Minn.) took fifth. In Intermediate Fences, Jada Schimke (Jr., Maple Grove, Minn.) placed fourth.
Schimke had a strong showing in Intermediate Flat, taking second. In Open Flat Saturday, Syrett and Wentland each took first in their sections, while Kristen Borchert (Jr., Coon Rapids, Minn.) placed sixth.
In Limit Flat, Droll had a first-place finish. Kaitlyn Cleland (So., Northfield, Minn.), and Samantha Halliday (So., Fort Frances, Ontario) each took third in their sections of Limit Flat, while Fiedler placed sixth.
In Novice, Chloe Buccholz took third. In Pre-Novice, Krista Duncan (Fr., Hancock, Minn.) had a strong ride to place first, while Jayci Lawrence took first in Introductory.
Minnesota Crookston had a number of riders qualify for regionals. The Golden Eagles were the Reserve High Point Team in the region, while Wentland was the Reserve High Point Rider for the region. In Open Fences, Syrett placed first and qualified for the Zone Championships, as did Wentland taking second.
In Open Flat, Syrett qualified for Zones by taking first. Wentland placed third.
In Intermediate Fences, Borchert placed third for the Golden Eagles. In Limit Fences, Schimke placed first to move on to Zones.
In Limit Flat, Drool took first for the Golden Eagles to move on to Zones.
Sophie Gustafson (So., Sleepy Eye, Minn.) took fifth in Novice.
Minnesota Crookston competes in IHSA Zones March 29 at Ledges Sporting Horses in Roscoe, Ill.
