CROOKSTON, Minn. - The University of Minnesota Crookston equestrian team hosted a pair of home meets at Charles H. Casey Arena Saturday, November 9 and Sunday, November 10 in Crookston, Minn. The Golden Eagles earned Reserve Champion Saturday, and were the Champion of Sunday's show. Belle Syrett (So., Winnipeg, Manitoba) earned High Point Rider accolades Saturday, while Alexandra Wentland (Sr., Colorado Springs, Colo.) was named High Point Rider Sunday.
Saturday, the Golden Eagles opened the show with a win in Open Fences from Syrett, while Wentland took third. In Open Flat, Syrett took first, while Wentland finished right behind her in second. In Limit Flat, Jane Droll took first, while Kaitlyn Cleland finished fifth.
In Limit Fences, Jada Schimke (Jr., Maple Grove, Minn.) took second, while Droll placed fourth. In Intermediate Fences, Kristen Borchert placed fourth. In Novice Flat, Samantha Halliday placed first, while Zoe Waldron took third. Sophie Gustafson and Christina Fiedler each took fifth in their sections, while Borchert placed sixth. In Pre-Novice, Arabella Owen took second, while Jayci Lawrence placed third in Introductory Equitation.
In Sunday's show, Wentland opened it up by taking first in Open Fences, while Syrett placed second. In Intermediate Fences, Borchert put together a strong ride to take first for the Golden Eagles. In Limit Flat, Droll placed first while Cleland took sixth. In Intermediate Flat, Schimke had a strong ride to earn the first-place ribbon, while Borchert took fourth.
In Limit Fences, Schimke placed third while Droll took fourth. In Open Flat, Wentland notched a second-place finish while Syrett took fifth for the Golden Eagles. In Novice Equitation, Halliday and Gustafson each took second in their section. Chloe Buchholz placed third, while Waldron and Fiedler each took fourth in their sections.
In Pre-Novice Equitation Sunday, Owen placed third. Lawrence took second in Introductory Equitation.
The Golden Eagles will compete in a pair of IHSA meets November 23 and 24 at Wisconsin-River Falls in River Falls, Wis.
