Box Score 2 Sioux Center, Iowa – For the fourth time this season, Minnesota Crookston split a doubleheader, as they fell in a low scoring affair to the NAIA No. 11 team Northwestern College, 3-1, before rebounding and defeating Briar Cliff, 10-7, to close out the ASB Complex Classic.
Minnesota Crookston moves to 4-6 on the season.
Game One
In the first game, the Golden Eagles would start fast, like, really fast.
Chayse Doering (Fr., OF, Shakopee, Minn.) would hit her first career home run and the first home run of the Golden Eagles season, taking a 1-0 lead.
The Raiders would answer back with a run in the first and then score two more in the second, taking a 3-1 lead.
The maroon and gold would load the bases in the fifth, but they weren't able to string a run across.
Those early runs would be all that the game would see, as the Raiders moved to 12-0 on the year with the 3-1 win.
Minnesota Crookston finished with four hits. Doering,
Rayna French (So., C, La Salle, Manitoba),
Hannah Trzinski (Fr., P/1B, Stevens Point, Wis.) and
Riley Blake (Fr., P/OF, Las Vegas, Nev.) each collected a hit.
Trzinski picked up the loss after giving up three runs on three hits in 1.1 innings of work.
Evie Stuck (Sr., P, Papillion, Neb.) was fantastic in relief, not allowing a run in 4.2 innings of work.
Game Two
Game two would be the exact opposite of the first game, as it would see a whopping 17 runs combined between the two teams.
The Chargers would start fast, jumping out to a quick 3-0 run.
Irelyn Spencer (R-So., IF, Rapid City, S.D.) would help the Golden Eagles cut into the deficit by driving in Madison Yandle (Fr., SS, Lakeville, Minn.).
Briar Cliff would add another run in the fourth inning, but the maroon and gold would break through.
The maroon and gold would explode for six, fourth inning runs, started by Spencer, who would once again score Yandle. French would tie the game with a two RBI single.
Trzinski would score French and later, Yandle would cap off the big inning with a pair of RBI on a single.
Briar Cliff would score two in the fifth, but would leave a pair of runners on.
The Golden Eagles would answer with two more in the fifth, as French and Doering would both single in runs.
The Chargers would answer with one in the sixth, but yet again, they would leave the bases loaded. Spencer would continue her outstanding game with a double down the left field line, scoring Yandle.
For the second straight inning, Briar Cliff would leave a trio on the base paths and the Golden Eagles would close their time in Iowa with the 10-7 win.
Minnesota Crookston finished with a season high 16 hits, helped by a career best 4-4 day from Yandle.
Jocelyn Hernandez (Fr., OF, Tracy, Calif.) also finished with a career-high three hits, as did Doering. Another freshman, Trzinski, finished with a career day, driving in five runs.
Blake earned the win in the circle, giving up six runs on ten hits.
Kailee Pollard (Sr., P, Marshalltown, Iowa) and
Charlotte Dombrowski (Jr., P/OF, Valparaiso, Ind.) came in relief to slam the door, as Dombrowski would pick up the save.
