Larchwood, Iowa – No one could've drawn up a better finish to the fall season for Minnesota Crookston women's golf. The Golden Eagles had
Emma Pierson (Fr., Cherry Valley, Ill.) and
Ainsley McLain (Jr., Grafton, N.D.) finish second and fourth respectively, leading the Golden Eagles to a third place finish out of 13 teams at the USF Invitational.
The second and fourth place finishes are the best in Pierson's and McLain's career.
Wayne State College won the tournament by three strokes over Augustana, who finished four strokes better than the Golden Eagles. Minnesota Crookston placed ahead of perennial powers Winona State, Minnesota State and Concordia-St. Paul.
Piper Hill of CSP won the tournament over Pierson by three strokes, while McLain finished in a tie with Lanie Veenendall of Augustana.
Pierson was outstanding for the second straight day, finishing with a 78 on the day after carding a 75 during round one. Pierson finished with two birdies. McLain continues to be outstanding this season. Her fourth-place finish is the first of her career in the top five and fourth this season in the top-20.
Anaka Lysne (Sr., Wahpeton, N.D.) finished in 21st place after a second round 85, moving down one spot from the first round.
Lauren Bowyer (Sr., Ivanhoe, Minn.) moved up 12 spots to finish in 35
th, after carding a day two score of 11 over par.
The third-place finish for the Golden Eagles is their third top three finish on the season and best ever finish at the USF Invitational in program history.
The historic fall for the Golden Eagles is over, and they now await to see where they sit in the regional rankings, which will come out shortly.
