St. Paul, Minn. – Nine-time National Champion and top-10 Concordia-St. Paul proved to be too much on their home floor on Saturday, sweeping Minnesota Crookston (13-25, 16-25, 14-25).
Minnesota Crookston falls to 3-8 (0-3 NSIC).
Set One
The Golden Bears would strike first, but the Golden Eagles would answer with four straight points, including a kill from both
Carizma Muth (R-Fr., OH, Randolph, Wis.) and
Maya Jones (So., OH, New Braunfels, Texas), the first of a team-high 11 kills for the sophomore.
CSP would answer to tie the set, but Muth would collect another kill to give the Golden Eagles another lead.
From that point, it would be all Golden Bears, who would cruise to the set one win by 12.
Set Two
CSP would reverse the tide from the first set and jump out to a quick 11-3 lead.
Following that quick start, Minnesota Crookston would score three in a row, highlighted by back-to-back kills from Muth and one from
Lexi Scharold (Fr., MH, Alexandria, Kent.).
The Golden Eagles would try to chip away, but CSP would pull away for the set two win.
Set Three
Needing the third set to continue the match, the Golden Eagles would get off to a fast start at 5-4 and would take another lead at 6-5.
The Golden Bears would answer and take an 11-7 lead, but yet again, Muth would halt the run with a kill.
CSP would extend their lead to 17-9 and the Golden Eagles wouldn't be able to catch up to the perennial power, as the Golden Bears would earn the three set win and the sweep.
Individual State
Jones led the way with 11 kills on 24 total attacks, finishing with a .458 attacking percentage, her second highest attacking percentage on the season. Muth added nine kills on 30 total attacks. Scharold finished with four in the middle, while
Madison Carsten (So., OH, Wadena, Minn.) and
Emma Malek (So., MH, Plainfield, Ill.) each added a pair of kills.
