Lake City, Minn. – After back-to-back top five finishes in their first two fall tournaments, Minnesota Crookston men's golf will look to make it three top finishes in a row this weekend at the Watkins Invitational, hosted by Winona State. The Invitational will take place at The Jewel Golf Club in Lake City.
The Golden Eagles finished second at the Fall Brawl, their highest placing in a field that large in 15 seasons. The Golden Eagles shot 287 during the final 18 holes, their second best round since 2009. The two top-10 finishes for the Golden Eagles already have matched their total from last season.
Newcomer
Ross Koerner (Fr., Grand Forks, N.D.) was outstanding in his second career tournament, shooting 73 and 70, placing him in a tie for fifth. Another newcomer
Marc Bofarull Balleste (So., Barcelona, Spain) finished in eighth.
Holdyn Evjen (Fr., Hermantown, Minn.), another newcomer, was also outstanding, including on day one, shooting a 71 during the first round.
Lukas Justesen (Sr., Detroit Lakes, Minn.) and
Andrew Wilhelm (So., Fargo, N.D.) each placed in the top-25 of the Fall Brawl, as well.
Layton Bartley (Sr., Fargo, N.D.) shot a 78 and 72 in the two rounds.
Individually, the Golden Eagles already have 12 rounds where they have shot less than 72 on the season.
The Watkins Invitational field looks very similar to The Fall Brawl. The ten team field includes: Upper Iowa, Winona State, Concordia-St. Paul, Bemidji State, Minot State, UMary, Minnesota State, Sioux Falls, Augustana and Minnesota Crookston.
The Invitational tees off on Monday and wraps-up on Tuesday.
