CROOKSTON, Minn.
- From the vibrant streets of Barcelona, Spain, to the fairways of Minnesota, Marc Bofarull Ballesté's journey in golf is rooted in belief—both in himself and from those who mattered most.

Bofarull Ballesté first picked up a golf club at just five years old, guided by his father, a longtime player who saw something special early on. What started as a shared passion quickly became something more. "He believed I was good enough," Bofarull Ballesté  says. "And that belief was enough for me to keep going."

But if his father introduced him to the game, it was his mother who shaped the person behind the player. Through personal challenges of her own, she remained Marc's biggest source of inspiration. Encouraging him to pursue opportunities abroad, she pushed him to chase a dream that once felt distant—playing collegiate golf in the United States.

Growing up in Spain, however, that dream didn't come easily. Golf isn't among the country's most recognized sports, and for Marc, that meant constantly proving himself. "Even when you stood out, people didn't always take you seriously," he reflects. "It was tough—but once I showed what I could do, I earned that respect."

That resilience followed him to the U.S., where he now competes at Minnesota Crookston. Choosing the university wasn't just about athletics—it was about opportunity. A strong academic program, the support of his mother, financial considerations, and a welcoming team environment all played a role in his decision. "I felt comfortable right away," he says. "That mattered."

On the course, Bofarull Ballesté has begun to make his presence known. Winning the NSIC Preview tournament marked a turning point. "The first one feels great," he explains, "but doing it again proves you belong—that you can keep doing it." It was validation not just of his talent, but of the years of doubt he had fought through.

Still, his most memorable moment came as part of a team victory—one that came down to the final shot. With everything on the line, Marc delivered. "It was head-to-head, (in the) last moment, and I had that shot," he recalls. "Just how we did it, with everyone there—it meant everything."

That moment reflects the mentality Marc has built over time. Once doubted by others—even told pursuing golf in the U.S. was a waste—he used skepticism as fuel. "I told myself I was going to prove everyone wrong," he says. "And I kept battling."

Golf, often described as a mental game, has tested him in ways beyond physical skill. For Marc, handling pressure comes down to preparation and self-belief. "You can be good, but those moments—the pressure—that's what gives you the edge," he says. "You have to own it and trust the work you've put in."

Looking ahead, his goals are clear: win the conference and make a strong run at regionals. It's a team-first mindset, built on shared ambition and trust.

Off the course, Bofarull Ballesté has embraced new experiences in the U.S. From discovering sports like football and baseball to picking up pickleball—thanks to his tennis background—he's found joy in stepping outside his comfort zone. And like many in Minnesota, he's adopted a loyalty to local teams.

When it comes to downtime, his preferences are simple: original Oreos (no double stuf), no milk, and a cold Diet Coke or chocolate milk on the side.

For younger athletes looking to follow a similar path, Marc keeps his advice straightforward: "Put in the work. Nothing is given to you. Believe in yourself—because no one else is going to give you your spot. You have to want to be the best."

From overlooked beginnings in Spain to clutch performances in the Midwest, Marc Bofarull Balleste's story is one of persistence, sacrifice, and unwavering belief—a reminder that sometimes, all it takes is one person believing in you to change everything.
