CROOKSTON, Minn. - The University of Minnesota Crookston put together one of their best showings in a tournament in program history, placing fourth out of 20 teams at The Mule at Mules National Golf Club in Warrensburg, Mo. The Golden Eagles shot their best, second-best, and fourth-best rounds since 2009 with scores of 286, 287, and 289.
The Golden Eagles had two second-place finishes in 2023-24, but hadn't placed higher than eighth in a 20 team field during their last 15 seasons as a program.
Minnesota Crookston defeated several top-notch programs including: Harding University, Washburn University, Fort Hays State University, West Texas A&M University, Drury University, Minnesota State University, Northeastern State University, University of Arkansas-Fort Smith, Rogers State University, Pittsburg State University, William Jewell University, Missouri Southern State University, Newman University, Concordia University-St. Paul, Southwestern Oklahoma State University, and Missouri Western State University.
Andrew Wilhelm (So., Fargo, N.D.) placed 10th after carding rounds of 73, 71, and 68. His 68 is the third-lowest round for the program since 2009. Marc Bofarull Balleste (So., Barcelona, Spain) shot scores of 72 in all three rounds, placing in a tie for 17th. Lukas Justesen (Sr., Detroit Lakes, Minn.) tied for 19th with scores of 69, 73, and 75. Connor Czirjak (So., Calgary, Alberta) shot rounds of 72, 81, and 74. Ross Koerner (Fr., Grand Forks, N.D.) rounded out the Golden Eagle contingent with scores of 81, 71, and 79.
Nicholas Canales of the University of Central Oklahoma was the individual medalist with scores of 68, 73, and 63. Central Oklahoma was the team champion.
The Golden Eagles will compete at the CSP/MSU Fall Brawl September 16-17 in Hudson, Wis.
