No. 8 Golden Bears Swing Their Way to Sweep of Golden Eagles

Crookston, Minn. – Concordia-St. Paul swung their way to a sweep of Minnesota Crookston on Friday night (16-25, 18-25, 14-25).
 
Minnesota Crookston falls to 7-18 (4-13 NSIC) on the season.
 
Set One
The theme of the match would be quick starts for CSP, as they would jump out to a quick 8-3 lead. Maya Jones (So., OH, New Braunfels, Texas) would get the Golden Eagles within four with her first kill of the match.
 
The Golden Eagles would get within three at 9-6, following a kill from Carizma Muth (R-Fr., OH, Randolph, Wis.).
 
Later in the set, CSP would take an 18-11 lead, but Jones and Megan Schoenfelder (So., MH, Zumbrota, Minn.) would get the Golden Eagles back within five.
 
The Golden Bears would win the first set by nine.
 
Set Two
CSP would once again swing their way to a quick 8-2 lead, but the Golden Eagles would chip away and cut it to 9-5, following an attacking error.
 
CSP would take a 19-9 lead, but a service ace from Jones would cut the lead to 19-12.
 
The Golden Eagles would try and chip away at the lead, but CSP would prove to be too much in the second set, winning 25-18.
 
Set Three
CSP would move out once again to a quick 8-2 lead, but two straight points would cut the lead in half, at 8-4.
 
The Golden Eagles would once again cut the lead in half at 18-9, following a service ace from Baily Teveldal (Fr., S, Baltic, S.D.).
 
Madison Carsten (So., OH, Wadena, Minn.) would help the Golden Eagles go on a 3-0 run, but the Golden Eagles would score the last four in the set, earning the sweep of the maroon and gold.
 
Individual Stats
Muth led the way with seven kills on 39 total attacks, while Jones added six kills.
 
Teveldal finished with 20 assists, while Kailee Waasdorp (So., DS, West Fargo, N.D.) finished with 15 digs.
 
What's Next
The Golden Eagles will celebrate their lone senior, Bailey Schaefer (Sr., DS/OH, Brandon, Minn.), for senior day, as they host Minnesota State. First serve is set for 2:30 P.M.
