Crookston, Minn. – Bailey Schaefer (Sr., DS/OH, Brandon, Minn.) finished her last career match with 10 digs, but Minnesota State controlled the fourth set, winning the match in four (20-25, 20-25, 28-26, 14-25).
The Golden Eagles end the season with seven wins, their most since 2017, when they also won seven matches.
Set One
The Golden Eagles would get off to a fast start, taking a 3-0 lead, highlighted by an
Emma Malek (So., MH, Plainfield, Ill.) kill and a service ace by Bailey Teveldal (Fr., S, Baltic, S.D.).
Maya Jones (So., OH, New Braunfels, Texas) would later give the Golden Eagles a 6-3 lead.
MSU would tie the set up at six, but
Madison Carsten (So., OH, Wadena, Minn.) would regain the two point lead for the Golden Eagles, with a service ace.
Minnesota Crookston would have three different instances with two point leads, but the Mavericks would take their first lead of the set at 15-13.
MSU would eventually pull away for the five point, first set win.
Set Two
MSU would look to control the match with a second set win and they would jump out to a fast 13-3 lead.
Slowly but surely, the Golden Eagles would start and chip away.
A block by
Megan Schoenfelder (So., MH, Zumbrota, Minn.) would cut the deficit to 19-13.
Jones would get the Golden Eagles within five following a kill and
Carizma Muth (R-Fr., OH, Randolph, Minn.) would collect a service ace, making it 24-20, but the Mavs would finish the set, winning by five, once again.
Set Three
What a thriller it would be in set three.
Early on in the set, the Golden Eagles would go on a 4-0 run, capped off by a massive Jones kill, giving the maroon and gold a 7-3 lead.
Later in the set, Jones would once again cap off a 4-0 run with another kill and would force a Mavericks timeout, leading 18-12.
MSU would come all the way back and take a 23-22 lead, but Muth would collect one of her 15 kills, tying the match at 23.
The Golden Eagles would fend off three set points and would eventually take the third set, after Jones would give the Golden Eagles the 28-26 win.
Set Four
Minnesota Crookston would look to fend off another set.
Muth would collect a service ace, giving the Golden Eagles a 3-1 lead, but the set would be tight.
A Maverick attacking error would give the Golden Eagles a one point lead at 11-10, but the Mavericks would score six in a row, taking a 16-11 lead, but Malek would halt the run with a kill.
The Mavericks would pull away for the set four win and the match, 3-1.
Individual Stats
Jones led all attackers, finishing with 17 kills on 44 total attacks, while Muth added 15 kills on 41 total attacks. Carsten and Malek added nine and eight kills, respectively.
Teveldal wrapped-up her outstanding freshman season with 44 assists and 10 digs, giving her nine double-doubles in her freshman season. Waasdorp finished with 26 digs, as well. Muth also finished with a double-double, her seventh of her career.
