Crookston, Minn. – Minnesota Crookston would win the opening set in dominating fashion on Friday night against the Dragons of MSU Moorhead, but the Dragons would win the final three sets for the four set win over the Golden Eagles (25-15, 17-25, 20-25, 23-25).
Minnesota Crookston falls to 7-14 (4-9 NSIC).
Set One
The Dragons would breeze out to a quick 4-1 lead and would eventually take a 6-4 lead.
The Golden Eagles would answer with five straight points, started by a
Maya Jones (So., OH, New Braunfels, Texas) kill and capped off by back-to-back kills from
Carizma Muth (R-Fr., OH, Randolph, Wis.) and
Madison Carsten (So., OH, Wadena, Minn.).
Carsten would then help the Golden Eagles move out to a 13-7 lead with her first and only service ace of the night.
Baily Teveldal (Fr., S, Baltic, S.D.) would then give the Golden Eagles a 10 point lead with a service ace of her own.
Carsten would close out the first set with a kill, giving the Golden Eagles a 1-0 lead in the match.
Set Two
It would be a flip in set two, as the Golden Eagles would be the team with a quick start, as the maroon and gold would move out to a 5-2 lead, following a Jones kill.
Jones would collect her ninth service ace in two weekends, giving the Golden Eagles a 9-5 lead, forcing an MSUM timeout.
The timeout would work, as the Dragons would tie the match up at nine, but Teveldal would regain the lead for her team with her first kill.
The Dragons would take a 12-11 lead and would then lead 18-16, after Jones collected another ace. The two point lead would balloon in eight for the Dragons, who would win the set by eight.
Set Three
Once again, the Golden Eagles would start fast and score the first three points of the set, taking a 3-0 lead.
MSUM would take an 8-5 lead, but Jones would help tie up the set with a pair of kills.
The Dragons would start to pull away midway through the set and would win the swing set by five.
Set Four
In the must-win set for the Golden Eagles, they would soar to another quick lead at 4-1, after a Teveldal service ace.
Emma Malek (So., MH, Plainfield, Ill.) would pick up a massive block to give the Golden Eagles their largest lead of the set at eight.
That lead wouldn't last long, as MSUM would take a 10-9 lead, but
Lexi Scharold (Fr., MH, Alexandria, Kent.) would help the Golden Eagles retake the lead at 12-10.
The Golden Eagles would take a 19-18 lead following another Carsten kill, but the Dragons would score three in a row for a 21-19 lead.
MSUM would get set point at 24-20, but the Golden Eagles would fight off three straight match points, making it 24-23.
The Dragons would finally finish off the set and win the match, 3-1.
Individual Stats
Muth and Jones led the way with 15 kills, while Carsten added 10 in the match.
Waasdorp finished with a team-high 28 digs, while Carsten also added 14 digs, giving her four straight double-doubles. Teveldal added 35 assists and 13 digs, her fourth straight double-double, as well.

The maroon and gold will be back at home tomorrow afternoon, as they welcome in No. 21 Northern State. First serve is set for 2 P.M.
