Crookston, Minn. – Minnesota Crookston had moments of brilliance on Saturday afternoon against No. 21 Northern State, but the Wolves proved to be too much, sweeping Minnesota Crookston (17-25, 14-25, 21-25), completing the weekend sweep of Bemidji State and Minnesota Crookston.
The Golden Eagles fall to 7-15 on the year.
Set One
Minnesota Crookston would fall behind early at 4-1, but a kill from
Maya Jones (So., OH, New Braunfels, Texas) would cut the lead in half.
NSU would extend their lead to 11-4, but kills by
Lexi Scharold (Fr., MH, Alexandria, Kent.) and
Carizma Muth (R-Fr., OH, Randolph, Wis.) would make it 11-6.
Muth would then collect back-to-back service aces, cutting the Wolves lead to 13-10, forcing an NSU timeout.
The timeout would work like a charm, as the Wolves win the first set by eight.
Set Two
The Wolves would score the first seven points of the second set, but
Emma Malek (So., MH, Plainfield, Ill.) would put the maroon and gold on the board with a kill.
The Golden Eagles would work their way back into the set, making it 9-5, midway through the middle set.
Four points is the closest the Golden Eagles would get, as the Wolves would win the second set, 25-14.
Set Three
The second set would be tight. The Golden Eagles would trail early at 8-6, but Muth would help tie the match up at eight with a kill.
A 3-0 scamper would give the Golden Eagles a two point lead and would force another Wolves timeout.
From that point on, the set would be tied on five different occasions, but the Wolves would take a 17-15 lead and would never look back, for the 25-21 win and the match sweep.
