Golden Eagles Fight Hard in Three Set Loss to No. 24 Bulldogs

Crookston, Minn. – Minnesota Crookston played well against No. 24 Minnesota Duluth, but the Bulldogs were ultimately able to pull away and sweep the Golden Eagles (15-25, 19-25, 20-25) in NSIC volleyball action on Saturday afternoon, in Crookston.

Minnesota Crookston falls to 4-12 (1-7 NSIC) on the season.

Set One
The Bulldogs would start fast and jump out to a quick 3-0 lead, but kills from Maya Jones (So., OH, New Braunfels, Texas) and Carizma Muth (R-Fr., OH, Randolph, Wis.) would make it 3-2.

Following a Madison Carsten (So., OH, Wadena, Minn.) kill, the match would be tied at four.

The match would be back-and-forth, until the Golden Eagles would trail 12-9. A Baily Teveldal (Fr., S, Baltic, S.D.) kill, her first of four in the match, the Golden Eagles would trail 12-10.

From that point, it would be all Bulldogs, who would win the first set by 10.

Set Two
The second set would once again be tight and the Golden Eagles would tie it at six following back-to-back kills from Carsten.

The Bulldogs would take a 10-6 lead, but another 2-0 run by the Golden Eagles would make it 10-8.

The Bulldogs would take a 17-10 lead, but the Golden Eagles would score three in a row, highlighted by a Teveldal kill and an Emma Malek (So., MH, Plainfield, Ill.) kill.

The Golden Eagles would get it to three, but the Bulldogs would pull away for the six point, second set win.

Set Three
Looking to close out the match in three sets, the 'Dogs would come out swinging to a quick 10-2 lead, forcing a Nick Meseck timeout.

The timeout would work like a charm, as the Golden Eagles would get back into the set. The Golden Eagles would go on a 5-0 run. Highlighted by a kill from Malek and Megan Schoenfelder (So., MH, Zumbrota, Minn.).

Later on in the set, the Golden Eagles would get within one following an attacking error by the Bulldogs.

A Carsten kill would make it 21-20, but the Bulldogs would score the next four points of the set for the 25-20 win and the sweep of the Golden Eagles.

Final Stats
Jones led the way with eight kills on 27 total attacks, while Carsten finished with seven kills on 24 total attacks. Carsten also finished 16 digs in the match, as well.

Kailee Waasdorp (So., DS, West Fargo, N.D.) added 18 digs. Waasdorp has 10 or more digs in all but one match this season.
