St. Cloud, Minn. – Minnesota Crookston and No. 3 St. Cloud State met for the second time this season, this time in St. Cloud and Halenbeck Hall. The Huskies stayed unbeaten in NSIC play and defeated the Golden Eagles in straight sets (15-25, 20-25, 13-25).
Minnesota Crookston falls to 4-13 (1-8 NSIC).
Set One
SCSU would start fast and jump out to a 5-1 lead, but
Maya Jones (So., OH, New Braunfels, Texas) would finish a kill and
Carizma Muth (R-Fr., OH, Randolph, Wis.) would collect a service ace to make it 5-3.
Jones would collect another kill and start a 3-0 run to tie the set up at six.
The Huskies would regain a four point lead, but the Golden Eagles would get back within one, started by a
Madison Carsten (So., OH, Wadena, Minn.) kill. Muth would later tie the set at 13 with a kill.
The Huskies would score six in a row and take a 19-13 lead and would win the first set by 10.
Set Two
SCSU would start even faster in the second set and jump out to a 10-2 lead, but the Golden Eagles would go away quietly.
Muth and
Megan Schoenfelder (So., MH, Zumbrota, Minn.) would collect back-to-back kills to make it 12-7.
Later on in the set,
Emma Malek (So., MH, Plainfield, Ill.) would get a kill and get the Golden Eagles back within three.
Minnesota Crookston would get within two on four different instances, but the Huskies would go on a 3-0 run to win the second set, 25-20.
Set Three
In set three, it would be the Golden Eagles who would start fast, as they would fly out to a 3-1 lead, following another Muth ace.
SCSU would eventually take control of the set and take a 20-10 lead, but Schoenfelder would cap off a 3-0 run and make it 20-13.
That's as close as the Golden Eagles would get, as the Huskies would win 25-13 and take the match in three sets.
Individual Stats
Jones led the way for the Golden Eagles with eight kills on 23 total swings. Muth had six kills, while Malek finished with four kills on 12 total attacks.
Baily Teveldal (Fr., S, Baltic, S.D.) finished with 21 assists and added seven digs, while Carsten led the way with nine digs.
Minnesota Crookston finished with four service aces in the match, making it every match this season with at least one for the Golden Eagles.

The Golden Eagles will hit the road again as they head to Bismarck to take on the University of Mary on Friday at 6 P.M.
