BEMIDJI, Minn. – The University of Minnesota Crookston men's golf team is in fourth after the first round of the Bemidji State University Invitational Monday, September 12 at Bemidji Town and Country Club in Bemidji, Minn.
The Golden Eagles shot a 294 for their second-lowest round in the last two seasons. The mark ranks fifth all-time for the program since 2009.
Devin Kucy (So., Camrose, Alberta) placed tied for first with a 67, which tied Jake Sanders' 67 at the RMAC Championship in 2011 for the lowest round since 2009.
Keegan Poppenberg (Sr., Esko, Minn.) is tied for 12
th with a 73.
Layton Bartley (So., Fargo, N.D.) shot a 77 in the opening round, as did
Ethan Howes (Fr., Fort Saskatchewan, Alberta).
Rory Wutzke (So., Camrose, Alberta) carded a 79.
Cade Pederson (Sr., West Fargo, N.D.) golfed as an individual and posted a 76.
Carson Shultis (Fr., Fargo, N.D.) shot an 81, while
Matt Moroz (Sr., Edmonton, Alberta) carded a 90.
Concordia University-St. Paul leads the field with a 287. Bemidji State University is in second with a 290. Augustana University is in third with a 291. Minnesota Crookston is three strokes back in fourth place. Kucy is tied for the lead with Bemidji State's Ben Corbid.
The Golden Eagles currently lead Winona State University by one stroke, Concordia College by three strokes, Minnesota State University by three strokes, Bemidji State's second team by six strokes, Concordia-St. Paul's second team by eight strokes, University of Mary by 19 strokes, and Minot State University by 22 strokes.
The Golden Eagles will wrap up the Bemidji State Invitational Tuesday, September 13.
