Crookston, Minn.—The University of Minnesota Crookston softball program announced today the signings of Brianna Nancarrow (Fr., C/SS, Victorville, Calif.), Cassie Querry (Jr., C/3B, Huntingdon, Pa./Lock Haven University) and Kamryn Frisk (Jr., P/INF, Anchorage, Alaska/Northwest Kansas Technical College). The Golden Eagles will now have nine new faces on the team next season. Nancarrow, Querry and Frisk join Gabriella Blomdahl (Fr., OF, Duluth, Minn.), Alyssa Stillman (Fr., SS/2B, Hortonville, Minn.), Alina Avilos (Fr., P/1B, Riverside, Calif.), Dana Zarn (Fr., 3B, Winnipeg, Manitoba), Ella Eibensteiner (Fr., SS/2B, North Oaks, Minn.) and Taylor Brunn (Fr., 2B/OF, Little Canada, Minn.) as the new faces for second-year Head Coach
Travis Owen.
Coach Owen likes the fit that both Nancarrow and Querry will have as Golden Eagles.
"Brianna and Cassie were later additions in the summer who will be great fits for our program. They both give us depth at catcher and infield."
In his first full recruiting cycle, Owen has been trying to get durable and versatile players to be Golden Eagles. Querry and Nancarrow seem to fit that mold.
"Brianna is a driven & determined athlete who decided late that she wanted to play in college. She had been doing extremely well at her high school Excelsior, and is from Victorville, CA. She'll be getting reps at either middle infield, catcher, or both," Owen said of Nancarrow. "Cassie is a transfer from Lock Haven in Pennsylvania. She has the ability to hit for power and is solid defensively behind the plate. She loves competing and will fit in well with our team, she will get reps at catcher but can play the corners too if needed."
The duo will look to build off of a historic season last year that saw the Golden Eagles set a school record for wins with 14. The Golden Eagles return some big pieces from last year's squad, including
Mikaela Rodriguez (Sr., SS, Laveen, Ariz.),
Jordan Peterson (Jr., UT, Lakeville, Minn.) and
Leah Macias (So., OF, West Covina, Calif.) on the offensive side, as well as
Paige Pitlick (Sr., P, Jordan, Minn.) in the circle.
With pitching depth being a little bit of a concern, Owen is very relieved to get Frisk, who will be a junior this season.
"Kamryn will add to our overall team depth as a hitter but more importantly she will fill an important role for us as an additional arm in the circle," said Owen. "As a pitcher she did what it took to help her team compete and I was immediately impressed with her attitude and motivation for the game."
