Minnesota Crookston Baseball Schedule Changed Against Dakota Wesleyan Due To Weather

CROOKSTON, Minn. – The University of Minnesota Crookston's baseball games against Dakota Wesleyan University have been moved to Sat., Feb. 24 at 3 p.m. and Sun., Feb. 25 at 12 and 3 p.m. All three games will be nine-inning games at Lawrence-Dumont Stadium in Wichita, Kan.

Lawrence-Dumont Stadium is a long-time minor league baseball stadium originally opened in 1934. It currently is the home of the Wichita Wingnuts of the American Association. It was the home of the Wichita Pilots/Wranglers, a former Double-A affiliate of the San Diego Padres and Kansas City Royals from 1987-2007.
The Golden Eagles come into Saturday with a 1-3 mark after opening the year with four games against Hawai'i Pacific University in Waipahu, Hawai'i Feb. 9-11. Minnesota Crookston is led by Anthony Stewart (R-Sr., OF, Oak Harbor, Wash.), who leads the team with a .471 batting average with foru runs scored and one RBI. Stewart is also the defensive leader as he was an ABCA/Rawlings Gold Glove recipient in center field last season.
Ethan Mushitz (Sr., SS, East Grand Forks, Minn.) enters the weekend hitting .455 with two runs, one double and one RBI. Reed Hjelle (Jr., 1B, East Grand Forks, Minn.) hit .375 with one run scored, two doubles and four RBIs, while Jonathan Lund (Jr., 3B, Tolna, N.D.) batted .308 with one run scored, two doubles and one RBI.
On the mound, the Golden Eagles look to their relievers with Zach Seipel (Jr., RHP, Eagan, Minn.), who is 0-0 with a 0.000 ERA in 3.0 innings pitched with one save. Seipel has picked up 24 saves in his three seasons as closer for Minnesota Crookston. Gabriel Cavasos (Sr., RHP, San Antonio, Texas) wnet 1-0 with a 0.00 ERA in 5.0 innings pitched.
Jayden Grover (So., RHP, Cooperstown, N.D.) comes in as the top starter after going 0-1 with a 7.20 ERA in five innings pitched with two strikeouts and six hits allowed.
Dakota Wesleyan went 25-27 last season. The Tigers are a NAIA affiliate located in Mitchell, S.D. Minnesota Crookston Head Coach Steve Gust was the skipper of Dakota Wesleyan from 2009-14. John Greicar, a Grand Forks, N.D. native who was an assistant and former player for Gust, currently coaches the Tigers.
Dakota Wesleyan went 25-27 in 2017. Brandon Oropeza is the leading returner at the plate for the Tigers after hitting .306 with 12 runs scored, nine doubles, one triple, three home runs and 22 RBIs. Reed Harter also returns after hitting .268 last season. Dakota Wesleyan will have a relatively new line-up as they only return five starters at the plate from the 2017 season.
On the bump, the Tigers are led by lefty Dominique Boerger, who was 5-3 with a 3.52 ERA in 53.2 innings pitched with 32 strikeouts on the season. Steven Sagasty also returns after going 0-5 with a 9.42 ERA in 14.1 innings pitched, while Dillon Stadlman was 1-4 with a 9.68 ERA in 35.1 innings pitched last season.
