MOORHEAD, Minn. – The University of Minnesota Crookston softball team picked up a split against Minnesota State University Moorhead Fri., April 22 at MSUM Softball Field. The Golden Eagles fell 8-0 in game one, but rebounded with a 6-4 win over the Dragons. UMC was led by a strong pitching performance in game two from
Bailey Braatz (Jr., RHP, Buffalo, Minn.), who went seven innings and gave up four earned runs on four hits with five strikeouts.
Kristi Larson (Sr., IF, New Ulm, Minn.) came up with her second game-winning hit this week as she had a two-RBI single in the sixth inning to drive in
Kate Howell (So., OF, Badger, Minn.) and
Sam Rarick (Fr., OF, East Grand Forks, Minn.).
Minnesota Crookston is now 10-38 (4-25 NSIC). The Golden Eagles surpass the 10-win mark for the first time since 2004. They are now just two wins from tying their school-record 12 wins set during the 2004 season. MSU Moorhead is now 16-28 (9-19 NSIC) with the split.
Braatz picked up her fourth win of the season with her strong performance in the circle for the Golden Eagles.
UMC was led on game two by
Allison Foley (Sr., SS, Lockport, Ill.), who was 3-of-4 with one run scored.
Alexis Khoshaba (Sr., OF, Richmond, British Columbia) went 2-of-4 with two RBI's. Larson finished the day going 2-of-3 with two RBI's and one run scored.
The loss went to Kristen Nordby, who gave up four earned runs on nine hits with 5.2 innings pitched.
The Golden Eagles took a 2-0 lead in the first inning. Khoshaba singled up the middle to drive in Foley and
Victoria Bayliss (So., 2B/OF, West Bloomfield, Mich.).
UMC would take the 4-0 advantage in the second. Bayliss would reach on a fielding error, which allowed Larson and
Jozie Garner (Jr., OF, Eureka, Kan.) to score.
MSU Moorhead would rally in the third and fourth to knot it up 4-4.
However, that is when Larson would come through with the game-winning single to drive in Howell and Rarick to put UMC up 6-4, a lead they would hang on to.
Minnesota Crookston would control the game and take an 8-0 win in game one.
Mikayla Jones (Fr., RHP, Huxley, Iowa) went 4.2 innings and gave up five earned runs on eight hits with one strikeout.
The Golden Eagles had three hits on the day. Garner went 1-of-3, as did
Gabriel Antolak (So., 3B/C, Zimmerman, Minn.) and Khoshaba.
The win for MSU Moorhead went to Morgan Nybo who gave up no earned runs on three hits with seven strikeouts.
Minnesota Crookston will wrap up the season on Sat., April 23 against Northern State University at 1 and 3 p.m.
