CROOKSTON, Minn.- The University of Minnesota Crookston softball team will close out the 2015 season Sat., April 25 and Sun., April 26 at the UMC Softball Field as the Golden Eagles host Northern State University and Minnesota State University Moorhead. The weekend will mark parent's weekend and senior weekend, as well as UMC's "Pink The Park" game as they raise money for the Susan G. Komen Foundation for Breast Cancer Research.
The Golden Eagles are 4-40 (0-26 NSIC) on the season as they continue to seek their first conference win of the
Don Stopa era. Minnesota Crookston played well on Wednesday but fell narrowly 4-3 and 13-9 to University of Mary.
UMC has been led on the season by
Victoria Bayliss (Fr., OF, West Bloomfield, Mich./Elementary Education) hit .356 wtih 21 runs scored, 10 doubles and 10 runs batted in (RBI's). In addition to Bayliss,
Allison Foley (Jr., SS, Lockport, Ill./Accounting) comes in with a .305 batting average with 23 runs scored, seven doubles, four home runs and 17 RBI's. The Golden Eagles are hitting .255 on the season.
UMC's pitching staff has been led by
Bailey Braatz (So., RHP, Buffalo, Minn./Sports and Rec Management), who is 2-14 with a 6.45 earned runs average (ERA) in 102.0 innings pitched.
Brooke Vatthauer (Sr., LHP, Crookston, Minn./Health Science) comes in with a 0-7 mark and a 6.76 ERA in 47.2 innings pitched.
Northern State is 28-20 (15-10 NSIC) coming into the weekend. The Wolves are coming off a pair of losses to
University of Minnesota Duluth April 21. The Wolves are led by Eryn Yancy, who is hitting .331 with 21 runs scored, 14 doubles, eight home runs and 32 RBI's. In addition to Yancy, Rachel Albright is hitting .321 with 17 runs scored, nine doubles, two home runs and 24 RBI's.
In the cicrcle, Kami Smesmo leads the way with an 18-10 mark and a 2.82 ERA in 181.1 innings pitched. In addition to Smesmo, Missy Elkins is 9-9 with a 4.12 ERA in 125.2 innings pitched.
MSU Moorhead enters the weekend with a 12-27 (2-23 NSIC) record. The Dragons are led by Brittany York, who is hitting .350 with 17 runs scored, six doubles, five home runs and 24 RBI's. Carly Williamson is hitting .333with 10 runs scored and seven RBI's.
In the circle, the Dragons are led by Morgan Nybo, who is 9-16 with a 4.96 ERA in 144.0 innings pitched.
Sunday will mark senior day for the Golden Eagles as they honor the role that three student-athletes have played in helping to build the program. Vatthauer,
Shelby Hollinger (Sr., 2B, Neudorf, Saskatchewan/Health Science) and
Josee Plante (Sr., 3B, Manitou, Manitoba/Health Science) have all been integral parts of the program
