ST. CLOUD, Minn.- The University of Minnesota Crookston softball team fell 8-6 to Minot State University and 9-0 to University of Wisconsin-Parkside. The Golden Eagles were led on the day by
Allison Foley (Jr., SS, Lockport, Ill./Accounting), who was 4-of-7 with one run scored and one RBI in the two games. The Golden Eagles fall to 0-8 on the season. Minot State has an 11-2 overall mark on the season, while Wisconsin-Parkside is 4-9 on the season.
Minnesota Crookston gave the ball to
Sammy Knudson (So., RHP/OF, Fergus Falls, Minn./Health Science). Knudson got out to a terrific start, holding the Beavers to one run in the first four innings. Knudson would ive up four earned runs on seven hits in four innings.
Brooke Vatthauer (Sr., RHP, Crookston, Minn./Health Science) would take the loss after going 0.2 innings and giving up four earned run on two hits.
Melissa Bell started out the scoring for Minot State, crossing the plate on a wild pitch. The Golden Eagles would quickly take the lead back, as
Alexis Khoshaba (Jr., OF, Richmond, British Columbia/Sports and Rec Management) hit her third home run of the weekend, bringing home herself,
Gabriel Antolak (Fr., C, Zimmerman, Minn./Equine Science) and Foley to make it 3-1.
UMC would extend their lead to 4-1 in the bottom of the fourth as Khoshaba scored on a double steal.
Minot State would come through in a big inning, taking the 8-4 lead in the top of the fourth led by a Ali Cygan two-run homer and a Bell triple that would also drive in two.
The Golden Eagles would add two runs in the bottom of the seventh but would fall just short.
Ashley Hoyle (Jr., UT, Blaine, Minn./Animal Science) would score on an error and
Victoria Bayliss (Fr., OF, West Bloomfield, Mich,./Elementary Education) scored on a Foley single.
Mindy Lorimor got the win for Minot State after going six innings and giving up four earned runs on five hits.
UMC was led in game one by Foley, who was 3-of-4 with one RBI and one run scored, and Khoshaba, who was 1-of-2 with three RBI's and two runs scored.
In game two against Wisconsin-Parkside, the Rangers would hold the Golden Eagles to just one hit from Foley. The loss for UMC went to
Bailey Braatz (So., RHP, Buffalo, Minn./Sports and Rec Management), who went five innings and gave up seven runs on 10 hits.
The Golden Eagles will next play as they travel to Tucson, Ariz. for their spring trip. The Golden Eagles will play 10 games from March 16-20 starting with University of British Columbia March 16 at 10 a.m. UMC will also take on Dickinson State University March 16 at 12 p.m.
