ST. CLOUD, Minn.- The University of Minnesota Crookston softball team fell 9-6 to Minot State University and 6-5 to University of Wisconsin-Parkside Sat., March 7 at the Husky Dome in St. Cloud, Minn. The Golden Eagles were led by
Alexis Khoshaba (Jr., OF, Richmond, British Columbia/Sports and Rec Management), who went 3-of-7 with two home runs and five RBI's and four runs scored in Saturday's games against Minot State and Wisconsin-Parkside.
The Golden Eagles gave the ball to
Brooke Vatthauer (Sr., RHP, Crookston, Minn./Health Science), who went four innings with six earned runs on six hits.
The Beavers started out the scoring in the first as Jordan Grant scored on a sacrifice fly. A walk to Alyssa Cornejo would allow Melissa Bell to score to make it 2-0.
The Golden Eagles would take the lead 3-2 in the third as
Gabriel Antolak (Fr. C, Zimmerman, Minn./Equine Science) doubled to plate
Shelby Hollinger (Sr., 2B, Neudorf, Saskatchewan/Health Science). Khoshaba would hit a two-run home run to drive in herself and Antolak.
Minot State would tie up the game 3-3 in the bottom of the third as Rachel Burdette drove a double down the left field line to score Ali Cygan. The Beavers would add four runs in the fourth and fifth innings to take the 7-3 advantage.
The Golden Eagles would cut the lead to 7-4 as Hollinger singled to drive in
Victoria Bayliss (Fr., OF, West Bloomfield, Mich./Elementary Education).
A Burdette two-run homer for the Beavers in the sixth would make it 9-4.
In the seventh,
Josee Plante (Sr., 3B, Manitou, Manitoba/Health Science) singled to drive in Antolak.
Khoshaba would score on a double steal later in the inning to make it 9-6.
Cornejo got the win for the Beavers after going six innings and giving up four earned runs on eight hits.
Khoshaba was 1-of-4 with two RBI's and two runs scored, while Hollinger was 3-of-4 with one RBI and one run scored.
Minot State was led by Grant, who was 3-of-3 with two runs scored. Burdette was 2-of-3 with three RBI's and one run scored. Cornejo was 2-of-3 with one RBI and one run scored.
Against Wisconsin-Parkside,
Bailey Braatz (So., RHP, Buffalo, Minn./Sports and Rec Management)
got the start and went six innings and gave up four earned runs on six hits.
The Rangers would start the scoring in the bottom of the first as Gosser scored on a steal of home.
UMC would take the 3-1 advantage in the top of the third as Khoshaba hit a three-run home run to plate Antolak and Hollinger.
Wisconsin-Parkside would cut the deficit to 3-2 when Courtney Ellingson hit a home run in the bottom of the third.
The Rangers would tie up the game 3-3 as Madison Manders hit a home run.
In the top of the fifth,
Kristi Larson (Jr., IF, New Ulm, Minn./Sports and Rec Management) was hit by a pitch to allow Khoshaba.
Wisconsin-Parkside got two runs in the bottom of the fourth to take the 5-4 lead as Ellingson trippled to score Kalli Gosser. Megan Holderby would hit a single later in the inning to score Ellingson.
UMC would be able to tie up the game 5-5 as
Allison Foley (Jr., IF, Lockport, Ill./Accounting) hit a single to drive home Bayliss in the top of the sixth.
Bell hit a sacrifice fly to plate Therese Jender, which would prove to be the game-winning run for the Rangers.
Khoshaba led the way going 2-of-3 with thee RBI's and two runs scored, while Foley was 2-for-4 with one RBI and Bayliss was 3-of-5 with one run scored.
The Golden Eagles go into Sunday with an 0-6 overall mark .
