WEST ST. PAUL, Minn.- The University of Minnesota Crookston softball team dropped a pair of games Thursday at the West St. Paul Sports Center in West St. Paul, Minn. The Golden Eagles fell short 9-6 to Minnesota State University Moorhead and fell 6-0 to Minot State University. UMC drops to 0-4 in their first season under
Don Stopa.
Bailey Braatz (So., RHP, Buffalo, Minn./Sports and Rec Management) got the start in game one against MSU Moorhead and went 4.1 innings, giving up five earned runs on seven hits.
Brooke Vatthauer (Sr., RHP, Crookston, Minn./Health Science), would come on in relief and go 2.2 innings, giving up four earned runs on five hits.
The Golden Eagles went into the fourth inning with a 5-0 lead, but the Dragons would score two runs in the fourth, four in the fifth and three in the sixth in order to come away with the victory.
The Golden Eagles were led by
Kristi Larson (Jr., IF, New Ulm, Minn./Sports and Rec Management), who went 1-of-23 with oen run scored and 2 RBI's. In addition to Larson,
Gabriel Antolak (Fr., C, Zimmerman, Minn.) went 2-for-4 with one RBI and one run scored and
Allison Foley (Jr., SS, Lockport, Ill./Accounting) was 2-for-3 with one run scored.
MSU Moorhead was led by Brittany York, who was 3-of-4 with five RBI's and three runs scored. Hannah Klug was 2-of-3 with two runs scored and one RBI. Morgan Nybo got the win after going seven innings, allowing just two earned runs on eight hits.
In game two, Vatthauer got the start and went 2.2 innings, giving up six earned runs on seven hits.
Jordyn Derflinger (Jr., RHP/OF, Henderson, Nev.) came out of the pen and pitched well, going 3.1 innings and giving up just four hits and no runs.
The Golden Eagles were led by Foley, who was 1-of-3 and Larson, who was 1-of-3.
Minot State looked to Mindy Lorimor, who pitched 5.2 innings, giving up no runs on just two hits. The Beavers were led by Jordan Grant, who was 3-of-4 with two runs and one RBI. Ali Cygan was 2-of-4 with two RBI's and one run scored.
The Golden Eagles will return to action March 7 with games against Minot State and
University of Wisconsin-Parkside in St. Cloud, Minn.
