Box Score WEST ST. PAUL, Minn. - The University of Minnesota Crookston softball team fell 11-2 to Bemidji State University in their second game of the day at the West St. Paul Sports Center in West St. Paul, Minn. UMC falls to 0-2, while Bemidji State moved to 1-1 with the win. The Golden Eagles opened the season on Wednesday as they enter their first season under Head Coach
Don Stopa.
Jordyn Derflinger (Jr., P, Henderson, Nev./Elementary Education) got the start in the circle and went four innings, giing up four earned runs on eight hits with three strikeouts. Derflinger would suffer the loss in the game.
UMC was led at the plate by
Shelby Hollinger (Sr., 2B, Neudorf, Saskatchewan/Health Science), who was 2-of-2 with two RBI's and one run scored.
Allison Foley (Jr., SS, Lockport, Ill./Accounting) was 1-of-3, as was
Alexis Khoshaba (Jr., OF, Richmond, British Columbia/Sports and Rec Management).
Brooke Timmins (Jr., C, Magnolia, Texas/Sports and Rec Management) was 1-of-1 with one run scored.
Bemidji State got the scoring started in the bottom of the second as Lyndsey Peterson scored after hitting a triple to right field and scoring on an error.
UMC would take a 2-1 advantage in the top of the third as Hollinger hit a two-run home run to drive in herself and Timmins.
The Beavers would knot things up at 2-2 in the bottom of the third when Angie Roberts doubled to left field to score Courtney O'Connor.
Bemidji State would extend their lead to 4-2 in the bottom of the fourth. Kaitlyn Shea would doule to right field to score Erin Robson. A Cassie MacArthur single would drive in Shea.
BSU would come through with a big inning in the fifth, scoring five runs to extend the lead to 9-2. They would chase Derflinger out of the game.
Bemidji State would add two more runs in the sixth inning.
The Beavers were led by Lexi Ripka, who was 3-of-4 with two runs scored and Shea, who was 3-of-4 with two runs scored and four RBI's.
Jessica Yost got the win for the Beavers after going six innings and giving up two earned runs on four hits.
UMC will continue play at the West St. Paul Sports Center Thursday as they take on Minnesota State University Moorhead at 9 a.m. and Minot State University at 11 a.m.
