ST. PAUL, Minn. – The University of Minnesota Crookston women's basketball team fell 85-62 to No. 8 Michigan Tech University in their first game of the 2015 Radisson Hotel Minneapolis St. Paul North Classic. The games were played at the Gangelhoff Center on the campus of Concordia University, St. Paul.
Michigan Tech improves to 2-0 on the season, while UMC fell to 2-1 with Friday's loss. The Huskies shot 36-of-67 from the field for 53.7 percent. They were 7-of-18 from beyond the arc for 38.9 percent.
UMC shot 22-of-53 for 41.5 percent from the field. They struggled from beyond the arc, shooting 2-of-9 for 22.2 percent. The Golden Eagles would go 16-of-20 for 80 percent from the charity stripe.
The Golden Eagles were led by 15 points on 6-of-12 shooting by
Katrina Nordick (Sr., F, Perham, Minn.).
Alison Hughes (Fr., G, Janesville, Wis.) added 12 points and three assists, while
Alexa Thielman (Sr., G, Buffalo, Minn.) had 10 points.
Emily Gruber (So., F/C, Monticello, Minn.) added eight points and seven boards.
Isieoma Odor (R-Fr., F/C, Bloomington, Minn.) led the bench with seven points.
Michigan Tech was led by Brenna Heise, who had 20 points on 9-of-13 shooting from the field. Kelli Guy added 18 points on 7-of-13 shooting from the field and 4-of-7 from beyond the arc. Danielle Blake chipped in 16 points and nine boards on 7-of-8 from the field, while Kylie Moxley had 13 points on 6-of-8 from the field.
Michigan Tech out-rebounded UMC 38-26 on the day.
The Golden Eagles would hang with the Huskies early on as they were down just 22-15 after the first quarter and 47-36 at the break. UMC was led by Nordick's 12 points and five boards in the first half.
Michigan Tech would out-score Minnesota Crookston 38-26 in the second half, led by eight points from Heise. Moxley added seven.
