Three-Pointers Ignite 86-64 UMC Win Over Jamestown at Radisson Hotel Minneapolis St. Paul North Classic

ST. PAUL, Minn. - The University of Minnesota Crookston used 12 three pointers go guide them to an 86-64 win over University of Jamestown Sat., Nov. 21 at the Gangelhoff Center in St. Paul, Minn. The game was the second for UMC in the 2015 Radisson Hotel Minneapolis St. Paul North Classic hosted by Concordia University, St. Paul.

The Golden Eagles moved to 3-1 on the season, the record they will finish the non-conference season with. Jamestown took Concordia-St. Paul to overtime the night before, but ultimately lost. The Jimmies are 5-2 overall. Both games over the weekend were exhibitions for Jamestown.

Minnesota Crookston was led by 23 points from Alexa Thielman (Sr., G, Buffalo, Minn.), who was 7-of-11 from the field, 3-of-5 from beyond the arc and 6-of-6 from the charity stripe. Thielman added five boards and three assists. Emily Gruber (So., F/C, Monticello, Minn.) added 14 points on 5-of-10 from the field and 3-of-5 from beyond the arc. She added five boards. Alison Hughes (Fr., G, Janesville, Wis.) added 13 points, while Micaela Noga (So., G, Parkers Prairie, Minn.) also had 13. Noga added seven rebounds.

Katrina Nordick (Sr., F, Perham, Minn.) did a lot of the little things Saturday for the Golden Eagles. Nordick had seven points, seven rebounds, five assists and seven steals.

The Golden Eagles were 30-of-64 for 46.9 percent from the field and were strong from beyond the arc, going 12-of-21 for 57.1 percent. They also were very strong from the charity stripe, going 14-of-16 for 87.5 percent.

Jamestown was led by 17 points from Jessica Buck, who was 8-of-16 from the field. Jenna Doyle came off the bench for 12 points and eight boards. The Jimmies were 26-of-65 for 40.0 percent from the field. In addition, they were 5-of-16 from beyond the arc for 31.3 percent and 7-of-11 for 63.6 percent from the charity stripe.

The Golden Eagles started out the game with a 14-1 lead led by 10 points early on from Thielman. UMC would get ahead 21-5, but Kyra Dewald would hit a three as the Jimmies cut the advantage to 21-8. The Golden Eagles would lead 25-11 at the end of the first quarter led by 14 points from Thielman on 4-of-5 shooting from the field and 2-of-2 from beyond the arc. Jamestown was led by four points from Jessica Buck.

The Golden Eagles would start out the second quarter strong, out-scoring the Jimmies 10-5 early on. UMC would continue to build on their lead and would go into the break with a 47-28 lead over Jamestown. Thielman led the Golden Eagles, shooting 7-of-9 from the field for 21 points, including going 3-of-4 from beyond the arc. Gruber added eight points on 3-of-6 from the field and 2-of-3 from beyond the arc. Hughes added seven in the first half.

UMC shot 17-of-35 for 48.6 percent from the field and were 6-of-10 for 60 percent from beyond the arc.

Jamestown was led by 11 points from Buck, while Chelsey Frydenlund added six. The Jimmies were 11-of-29 for 37.9 percent and 4-of-10 for 40 percent from beyond the arc.

The Golden Eagles would be able to find their largest lead 60-34 in the third quarter after a pair of Noga free throws. They would extend that even further as Hughes hit a tear-drop jumper to make it 62-34. Back-to-back buckets from Buck would cut the deficit to 62-38 late in the third quarter. However, Noga would squash the Jamestown run with a three to extend the lead to 65-38. Doyle would hit a bucket late in the third quarter as Jamestown cut the deficit to 66-42 going at the end of the third quarter.

UMC would extend their lead early in the fourth quarter to 74-46 after treys from Noga and Hughes. The Jimmies would make a small run to cut the lead to 74-50 as Doyle had a put-back for the Jimmies. However, Gruber would counter with her third trey of the night to push the lead back out to 77-50.

UMC put in their subs late, led by Lindsey Weber (Fr., G/F, Delafield, Wis.) hitting a trey to push the lead to 80-52. The Golden Eagles would come away with the 86-64 win over the Jimmies.

Thielman was named to the All-Tournament Team following her performance, after averaging 16.5 points per game over the two games.
