CROOKSTON, Minn. – The University of Minnesota Crookston hunt seat equestrian team performed strongly at a pair of shows at the University of Minnesota. The Golden Eagles earned High Point Team honors Saturday.
Selena Young (Fr., Plymouth, Minn./Equine Science) would have a strong day on Saturday to earn Reserve High Point Rider.
"Saturday's competition allowed us to pull away from opposing teams substantially," said Head Coach
Kayla Krueger. "We are very excited to come off of this weekend on a high note and intend on continuing this through our home show."
Saturday started out with
Emily Steeley (Sr., Portsmouth, R.I./ Equine Science) placing third in Open Equitation over Fences.
Monika Frame (So., Polson, Mont./Sports and Rec Management) came in right behind in fourth place.
Anna Ojczyk (So., White Bear Lake, Minn./Health Science) and
Mazie Pini (Fr., Grayslake, Ill./Animal Science) represented strongly in a large class of Intermediate Equtiation over Fences. Ojczyk finished out strongly in second and Pini in third. Young had a fabulous ride with a flawless fence course to win her class of Novice Equitation over Fences.
Steeley rode to a solid first-place finish in a competitive Open Equitation on the Flat class.
Rhiannon Nicoll (So., Rice, Minn./Animal Science) finished third in her Intermediate Equitation on the Flat class. Young rode bold to a strong win in a deep Novice Equitation on the Flat class.
Amanda Clary (Fr., Salinas, Calif./Equine Science) found her stride to win her Advanced Walk Trot Canter class on a challenging draw.
Megan Motter (Fr., Cooperstown, N.D./Equine Science) also faced the same draw of a horse as Clary and also rode strongly to a second-place finish in her division of Advanced Walk Trot Canter. Lastly,
Emma Howey (Fr., Rutland, N.D./Equine Science) came through with a fourth-place finish in a large walk trot class.
Sunday's competition proved to be tricky for the Golden Eagles, but UMC came away stronger and prepared for their home show. Steeley finished fifth in her Open Equitation over Fences class. Ojczyk and Pini represented well in a large group of Intermediate Equitation over Fences riders. Ojczyk came through to win the class, while Pini finished right behind her in second amongst some very talented riders. Clary also continued her successful streak with a second-place finish in her Advanced Walk Trot Canter division. Motter earned fifth in her division of Walk Trot Canter. Lastly,
Marissa Mancillas (Fr., Brookville, Fla./English) rode to a solid fifth-place finish in a large Walk Trot class.
The Golden Eagles will host two home shows Sat., Nov. 21 and Sun., Nov. 22 at the University Teaching and Outreach Center.
