(Crookston, Minn.)- The University of Minnesota, Crookston Softball team traveled to Valley City, N.D. to take on the Vikings in a non-conference double-header to close out the 2012 season. The Golden Eagles held a 1-0 advantage until the fourth inning when VCSU scored four runs and took an eventual 7-3 victory. Game two saw UMC jump out to a 4-0 lead in the first inning but gave back six runs in the bottom of the first to fall 7-4.
The Golden Eagles were led on the day by
Sammy Berglin (OF, So, Alexandria, Minn.) who went an outstanding 4-5 (.800) at the plate. She walked twice and had an on-base percentage of .857. She scored two runs for UMC and recorded one putout.
Rachel Schoenborn (2B, So, Anchorage, Alaska) followed Berglin with a .571 (4-7) batting average.
Brooke Vatthauer (P, Fr, Crookston, Minn.) recorded two outs in the first game and threw four scoreless innings in relief in game two. Vatthauer recorded a 0.00 ERA while throwing 4.2 innings. She gave up only one hit, struck out one batter and held the Vikings to a .067 batting average.
