(Mankato, Minn.)- The University of Minnesota, Crookston Softball team traveled to Mankato, Minn. to take on No. 13 Minnesota State University. The Golden Eagles managed just one hit in the first game but played well falling 5-0. Minnesota, Crookston hit better in the second game tallying seven hits while leaving nine runners on base in the 8-0 loss.
Courtney Bridge (SS, Fr, Port Coquitlam, British Columbia) led off the first game with a single and that would be the only hit UMC would earn through seven innings. Bridge tallied two more hits in game two and led all Golden Eagle hitters with a .500 (3-6) batting average. She hit one double and finished with a .667 slugging percentage.
Stacey Marcum (P, Jr, Merrill, Wis.) threw 6.1 innings on the day while giving up five earned runs.
The Golden Eagles play Minnesota Duluth on Tuesday, April 2 at 12 & 2 p.m. at Duluth East High School. The team returns home on Friday and Saturday to play Northern State and the University of Mary. Game times for the double-headers are set for 1 p.m. at the UMC Softball Field. If weather is an issue, the games will be moved to Thursday and Friday at UMC with a game time start at 1 p.m.
