(Crookston, Minn.)- The University of Minnesota, Crookston Softball team hosted No. 21 ranked Augustana College today in an NSIC double-header. UMC tallied eight hits but the Vikings used 15 hits and an 11 run second inning to take game one 15-1.
Paige Schaust (P, So, Delano, Minn.) threw outstanding in the second game scattering seven hits and giving up three runs in the 3-1 loss.
In game one the Golden Eagles scored their only run in the bottom of the first inning.
Hilary Brown (OF, Jr, Mosinee, Wis.) singled sharply through the left side.
Rachel Schoenborn (2B, So, Anchorage, Alaska) earned a walk and she was followed by a double by
Sara Wiedmaier (1B, Jr, Marengo, Ill.) that scored Brown. The Vikings scored 11 runs in the second inning to seal the victory.
In game two Schaust used her change-up to keep the Viking bats silent. The Golden Eagles struck again in the bottom of the second inning as Brown earned a double to left-center field.
Gina Delisa (C, Fr, College Station, Texas) hit a line drive to right center field that plated Brown. Augustana scored one in the third inning and capped off the victory with two runs in the top of the seventh inning.
Brown led the Golden Eagles today batting .500 (3-6). She hit one double and scored both of UMC's runs and finished with a .667 slugging percentage.
The Golden Eagles take on the Wayne State Wildcats (weather permitting) on Sunday, April 15. Game time is set for 1 p.m. at the UMC Softball Field.
