Golden Eagle Softball Heads to Florida for 14 Game Marathon

(Crookston, Minn.) – The University of Minnesota, Crookston Women's Softball team travels to Titusville, Fla. on March 8-15 to take part in Cocoa Beach Spring Training. The Golden Eagles have a busy week in Florida as the team plays a total of 14 games in seven days.
 
Minnesota, Crookston heads to the National Training Center in Clermont, Fla. on Friday, March 9 to play Lock Haven University and Dowling College at 1 & 5 p.m. On Saturday, March 10, UMC returns to the Chain of Lakes Park to play the remainder of the games. The team plays Waubonsee Community College in an exhibition game at 3 p.m. on March 10. Sunday sees the Golden Eagles playing Carlow University in a double-header at 9 & 11 a.m. UMC returns to the field to play Fisher College at 1 p.m. On Monday, March 12 the Golden Eagles host Fisher College again at 9 a.m. and then play Delaware Valley College at 11 a.m. Delaware Valley will have a rematch with Minnesota, Crookston on Tuesday, March 13 at 9 a.m. UMC hosts Winter Softball Canada at 11 a.m. in an exhibition game and follow that match up with a game against Gallaudet University at 1 p.m. Following that game, the Golden Eagles will attend the University of Central Florida versus Northern Colorado softball game in Orlando where former University of Mary Head Coach Gerice Olson is now an assistant coach with the Knights. Minnesota, Crookston closes out the week on Wednesday, March 14 and Thursday, March 15 playing Webber International University on Wednesday in a double-header at 3 & 5 p.m. and Gallaudet University on Thursday in a rematch at 9 a.m. before flying home.  
 
The Golden Eagles were led in the first five games of the season in Vadnais Heights, Minn. by freshman catcher Gina Delisa (C, 5-7, Fr, College Station, Texas) who went 4-10 (.400) in four games. She tallied three runs scored, two walks and one RBI. Defensively she was responsible for 17 putouts and two assists. Junior Stacey Marcum (P, 5-7, Jr, Merrill, Wis.) followed Delisa with a .375 (6-16) batting average. She hit two doubles, scored two runs and earned two RBI. Marcum made four appearances in the pitchers circle and finished with a 4.71 ERA while striking out 11 batters. Newcomer Sara Wiedmaier (1B, 5-8, Jr, Marengo, Ill.) closed out the top batters for UMC. She went 4-12 (.333) with one homerun, one double, and she led the team with four RBI and a .667 slugging percentage.
 
The NSIC season opens at home for UMC when the Golden Eagles host Winona State and Upper Iowa on March 24 & 25. Both games are scheduled for 1 p.m. If the weather does not permit the games to be played at UMC, the site will be flipped to Winona and Fayette, Iowa.
