Golden Eagle Softball Falls Twice to Mustangs

(Crookston, Minn.)- The University of Minnesota, Crookston Softball team traveled to Marshall, Minn. today to take on Southwest Minnesota State University. The Golden Eagle found themselves down 2-0 late in game one before scoring two runs in the sixth inning to tie it up. SMSU scored three in the bottom of the sixth to take the game 5-2. Minnesota, Crookston saw five unearned runs go up on the scoreboard late in game two to fall 11-3 in six innings.
 
In game one, Paige Schaust (OF, So, Delano, Minn.) was all the offense for UMC as she drove in Kelli Burns (OF, So, Montrose, Minn.) and Gina Delisa (C, Fr, College Station, Texas) with a double to the right-center gap. Courtney Bridge (SS, Fr, Port Coquitlam, British Columbia) continued her solid hitting going 2-3 in the game. The Golden Eagles had opportunities to score leaving eight runners on base. Stacey Marcum (P, Jr, Merrill, Wis.) threw well going six innings, giving up five earned runs while striking out four Mustangs.
 
In game 2, the Golden Eagles gave up three runs in the first inning. UMC scored two in the top of the second and gave one up in the bottom of the inning to go down 4-2. Southwest scored one in the bottom of the fourth with UMC scoring one in the top of the sixth. The bottom of the six would be Minnesota, Crookston's undoing as SMSU scored six runs (five unearned) to take the 11-3 six inning win. Gina Delisa (C, Fr, College Station, Texas) drove in Sara Wiedmaier (1B, Jr, Marengo, Ill.) in the second inning. Later in the inning Schaust singled in Delisa to get the score to 3-2. In the sixth inning it would be Schaust again who singled to score Marcum. Pitching for the Golden Eagles was Kelli Burns (OF, So, Montrose, Minn.) who threw five innings giving up six earned runs.
 
Leading the way in the double-header was Schaust who hit .600 (3-5) with one double, four RBI and an .800 slugging percentage. Delisa followed Schaust batting .500 (3-6) with two runs scored and one RBI.
