(Crookston, Minn.)- The University of Minnesota, Crookston Softball opened the NSIC season at home today against No. 7 ranked Winona State University. The Warriors used a four-run second and third inning in game one to take the 9-0 victory. In game two, the Golden Eagles and Warriors were knotted up at 4-4 until the top of the seventh inning when WSU scored six runs to take the 10-4 victory.
Minnesota, Crookston tallied just seven hits in the two games but were led by
Rachel Schoenborn (2B, So, Anchorage, Alaska) who tallied two hits and batted .286 (2-7). She earned one double and a slugging percentage of .429 while driving in two RBI and scoring one run.
Kelli Burns (P, So, Montrose, Minn.) pitched outstanding in the second game going 6.1 innings and giving up just five earned runs. The Golden Eagle pitching staff earned 11 strikeouts on the day.
The Golden Eagles return to the field tomorrow to host Upper Iowa University who split with MSU Moorhead on Saturday. The first game of the double-header is scheduled for 1 p.m. at the UMC Softball Field.
