(Wayne, Neb.) – The University of Minnesota, Crookston Women's Softball traveled to Wayne, Neb. on Saturday, April 23 to play the Wildcats. The Golden Eagles fell 7-0 in game one after giving up four runs in the bottom of the sixth inning. The team responded with a six hit, two homerun performance in game two but came up just short losing 5-4.
Katie Bowar (1B, 5-4, Sr, Moorhead, Minn.) and
Kayla Bowar (SS, 5-4, Sr, Moorhead, Minn.) led the Golden Eagles with a .333 batting average in the two games.
Kelli Burns (OF, 5-6, Fr, Montrose, Minn.) hit her first career homerun while
Rachel Schoenborn (2B, 5-4, Fr, Anchorage, Alaska) hit her second career homerun.
Steph Thomas (P, 5-9, Sr, St. Albert, Alberta) threw an outstanding five innings in game one. She gave up two earned runs and just three hits. In game two,
Stacey Marcum (P, 5-7, So, Merrill, Wis.) pitched six innings giving up seven hits and four earned runs.
UMC has a busy week as they host MSU Moorhead on Monday, Bemidji State on Tuesday, travel to Northern State on Thursday, host Concordia- St. Paul and St. Cloud State on Saturday and Sunday and travel to Mary on Monday to close out the NSIC regular season.
