Golden Eagle Softball Can’t Find Clutch Hits in Weekend Games

(Crookston, Minn.) – The University of Minnesota, Crookston Women's Softball team traveled to Marshall, Minn. and Mankato, Minn. to play four home games at the visiting sites. The Golden Eagles fell to the Mustangs 7-1, 7-3 and to the Mavericks 11-0, 10-1.
 
In Friday's double-header against Southwest Minnesota State University, the Golden Eagles slugged out 16 hits including two doubles. The team could not find the clutch hit as UMC stranded 14 runners on base and managed just four runs on the day. Erin Fowle (DP, 5-8, So, Winnipeg, Manitoba) led the Golden Eagles with a .571 (4-7) batting average. She hit one double, drove in one run and finished with a .714 slugging percentage. She threw 6.2 innings giving up seven runs (six earned) and struck out four Mustang hitters.
 
#5 Minnesota State Mankato had UMC's number from the start. The Mavericks forced the Golden Eagles into six errors in game one and slugged out 12 hits to Minnesota, Crookston's three. In the double-header, the Golden Eagle left 13 runners on base and totaled eight hits. Kayla Bowar (SS, 5-4, Sr, Moorhead, Minn.) led UMC with a .429 (3-7) batting average. She scored one run, tallied one double, one triple and finished with a .857 slugging percentage. Stacey Marcum (P/3B, 5-7, So, Merill, Wis.) threw a gem in the second game going six innings, giving up just five runs on eight hits.
 
Fowle led the Golden Eagles on the weekend batting .417 (5-12) with one double, one RBI and a .500 slugging percentage. Rachel Schoenborn (2B, 5-4, Fr, Anchorage, Alaska) followed Fowle with a .308 (4-13) batting average. She scored one run, hit one double and finished with a .385 slugging percentage.
 
UMC hosts Minnesota, Duluth on Tuesday, April 12 in an NSIC double-header. First game is scheduled to start at 2 p.m. The team returns to the UMC Softball Field on Thursday, April 14 when they host Valley City State University in a non-conference double-header. First game is scheduled to start at 3 p.m.
