Minnesota Crookston Equestrian Heads to California to Open Spring Schedule

CROOKSTON, Minn. - The University of Minnesota Crookston equestrian team is set to return to action in the NCEA this weekend. The Golden Eagles will face the University of California-Davis Friday, February 6 at 10 a.m., at UC Davis Equestrian Center in Davis, Calif. Minnesota Crookston will take on Fresno State University Saturday, February 7 at 10 a.m., at the Student Horse Center in Fresno, Calif.

The Golden Eagles enter the weekend with a 0-4 mark in dual-discipline. The 2025-26 season is the first full season for Minnesota Crookston competing exclusively in the NCEA. Minnesota Crookston had a narrow 12-8 loss to South Dakota State University prior to winter break, the first NCEA home show for the Golden Eagles in program history. Fresno State is 3-3 entering the weekend, while the Aggies are 4-7.

Minnesota Crookston has been lifted by Emma Mutnansky (So., Cass Lake, Minn.), who had an outstanding Fall. Mutnansky is a three-time ECAC Horsemanship Rider of the Week this season. She has three MOP honors this season. Mutnansky posted a high score of 78 against South Dakota State in Minnesota Crookston's home meet on November 22. Briana Thoeny (Fr., Ogilvie, Minn.) has a high score of 73 versus Delaware State in Horsemanship. McKenna Hooyer (Jr., Rock Rapids, Iowa) comes in with a high score of 75 versus her former school South Dakota State in Minnesota Crookston's home meet. Siara Mosby's (So., Bremerton, Wash.) best ride came with a 73.5 against the University of Tennessee-Martin, while Addison Pike (Fr., Grand Haven, Mich.) posted a 72.5 on the road at South Dakota State. Ryann Mitchell (Fr., Camano Island, Wash.)  posted a 75 against Delaware State.

In Fences, Minnesota Crookston's best score was an 82 from both Kristen Borchert (Sr., Coon Rapids, Minn.) against South Dakota State at home, and Julianne Lurie (Fr., Seminole, Fla.) versus Sewanee. Belle Syrett (Jr., Winnipeg, Manitoba) has a top ride of 80 in Fences, as does Maggie Lawler (Fr., Algonquin, Ill.).

In Flat, the top ride has been Syrett's 86 against Delaware State. Lawler tallied an 85 against Delaware State. Mitchell's top ride came with a 78 against Sewanee. Borchert notched a 79 versus Sewanee.

In Reining, Hooyer posted the top score with a 68.5 against UT-Martin. Thoeny's best score came with a 68 against South Dakota State on the road. Allison Patron's (Fr., Bend, Ore.) best score was a 68 on the road at SDSU. Hoven posted a 68 at South Dakota State, while Mosby notched a 68 against Delaware State.
