DOVER, Del. - The University of Minnesota Crookston equestrian team put the test to No. 2 Texas A&M University in their season opener at Redstone Ranch in Dover, Del., but fell 11-5.
The Golden Eagles open the season with a 1-0 mark, while Texas A&M is 2-0 after a win over Delaware State to go with their victory over the U of M Crookston.
Minnesota Crookston was propelled by their showing in Fences as they took three points off the Aggies to win Fences 3-1. Freshman Harlow Burris (Fr., Plymouth, Minn.) lifted the Golden Eagles to a 75 to defeat Lauren Kolbe. Belle Syrett (Sr., Winnipeg, Manitoba) secured a 70 to defeat Alida Treuting on Kitty. Julianne Lurie (So., Seminole, Fla.) earned a 68-40 victory on Bruce. Grace DeFoe earned the MOP for the Aggies with a win over Maggie Lawler (So., Algonquin, Ill.).
The Golden Eagles earned a point in Flat as Syrett continued a strong opening day, defeating Kolbe 84-76. Lurie tallied a 79 on Tillie but fell narrowly 84-79 to Texas A&M's Brooke Tegtmeyer. Lawler fell with a 73 on Vinny.
In Horsemanship, Addison Pike scored a 70 on Delta to upend Kendall Dirksen and earn a point. Minnesota Crookston was within 1.5 points in their other three rides with Zoey Case (Fr., Canton, Mich.) earning a 71, and Addyson Brown (So., Fennville, Mich.), and McKenna Hooyer (Sr., Rock Rapids, Iowa) each secured scores of 70.
Texas A&M swept the points in Reining. Arabella Clark (Fr., Hesperia, Calif.) guided the Golden Eagles with a 67.5 on Izzy. Case secured a 65.5 on Delta.
Minnesota Crookston continues their season Friday, September 25 at Delaware State University.
