Bemidji, Minn. – After the best season in program history a year ago, Minnesota Crookston women's golf enters this season with high expectations. Those high expectations will start this weekend at the Tracy Lane Memorial Tournament at the Bemidji Town and Country Club, hosted by Bemidji State.
A season ago, Minnesota Crookston finished second out of 10 teams at the Memorial Tournament, their highest finish ever at a tournament that size.
Anaka Lysne (Sr., Wahpeton, N.D.) placed second at the tournament a year ago.
The high expectations for the maroon and gold were evident in the preseason poll, as the maroon and gold were projected to finish eighth, the highest ever projected finish in the preseason poll in program history.
The Golden Eagles enter the season under the direction of
Brady Heppner, who will start his second year at the helm, but first full season as head coach of the Golden Eagles.
Lysne, the programs first two-time All-Conference performer is back this season and expected to lead the way. Lysne finished with a pair of top-three finishes and a win at the SMSU Classic in Arizona. Lysne finished with an average score of 79.4.
Ainsley McLain (Jr., Grafton, N.D.) is back and looking to build on a 22
nd place finish at the NSIC Championships.
Lauren Bowyer (Sr., Ivanhoe, Minn.) and
Libby Dulmage (Jr., Leeds, N.D.) are back and should make an impact in the top five.
Freshman
Emma Pierson (Fr., Cherry Valley, Ill.) is a highly touted newcomer. She will also play women's basketball for the Golden Eagles.
Along with Minnesota Crookston, the nine team field includes: Concordia-St. Paul, Southwest Minnesota State, Minot State, Concordia College, Bemidji State, the University of Jamestown, MSU Moorhead and UMary.
The 36-hole tournament kicks off on Monday and moves into Tuesday.
