Warrensburg, Mo. – Minnesota Crookston men's golf is set to commence their fall season this week at one of the tougher tournaments in all of Division II. The Golden Eagles will be the only NSIC team to compete at The Mule, hosted by Central Missouri, who appropriately go by the Mules. The tournament will take place at the Mules National Golf Course.
The Golden Eagles will look for some déjà vu this season. A year ago, at the same exact tournament, the Golden Eagles placed fourth.
The Golden Eagles are projected to finish sixth in the Northern Sun, but with several key contributors back on the roster, they could ascend past that preseason prediction.
Marc Bofarull Balleste (Jr., Barcelona, Spain), who became the first Golden Eagle since 2011 to be named to the All-NSIC Tournament team, is back and hoping to build on a great finish last year.
Andrew Wilhelm (Jr., Fargo, N.D.) finished in the top 20 on three different occasions, including a top 10 finish at the Mule a season ago.
Ross Koerner (So., Grand Forks, N.D.), played in five different tournaments a season ago and had a fifth-place individual finish at the MSU Fall Brawl. Newcomers Jaime Martinez Guimon (Fr., Getxo, Spain) and Jack Justesen (So., Hawley, Minn.), who is the cousin of former Golden Eagle
Lukas Justesen, are each expected to make impacts this season.
The Mule kicks off an extremely tough non-conference schedule for the Golden Eagles, who will also compete at the Bulldog Fall Classic hosted by Ferris State the following week.
The Mule's field includes: Upper Iowa, Central Missouri, Rogers State, Washburn, Arkansas-Fort Smith, Maryville, Central Oklahoma, Missouri S & T, Southwestern Oklahoma State, Dallas Baptist, Missouri Western State, Northeastern State, Arkansas Tech, Rockhurst, Fort Hays State, Henderson State, Newman and Harding University.
The challenging tournament begins on Monday and will be a three round tournament that goes into Tuesday.
