BURNSVILLE, Minn. - University of Minnesota Crookston goalkeeper Payton King (Fairfield, Calif.) was named the NSIC Goalkeeper of the Week after an outstanding performance in a win for the Highway 75 Rivalry Rock against Minnesota State University Moorhead. King is the first NSIC Player of the Week since Jordan Metz received the honor Sept. 16, 2024.
The Golden Eagles have now had NSIC Players of the Week in back-to-back seasons. Previously, the last two players to receive the honor were Samantha Deutsch in 2016, and Lexie Gauger in 2014.
King was instrumental in the shutout of the Dragons last Friday. She picked up her second career shutout in as many starts. King notched 10 saves, and recorded an assist on Elise Lefers (So., F, Brookings, S.D.) game-winning goal. The goalie assist marked the first time since 2007 a goalie has garnered a point for Minnesota Crookston.
She was joined on the NSIC Honor Roll by Maclayne Menzel of Minnesota State University as NSIC Defensive Player of the Week, and Bemidji State University's Katrina Barthelt as NSIC Offensive Player of the Week.
