Minnesota Crookston Soccer Hosts Wayne State and Augustana Friday and Sunday

• THE MINNESOTA CROOKSTON soccer team enters the weekend with a 1-1-1 mark coming off a 1-0 win over Minnesota State University Moorhead. The Golden Eagles claimed the Highway 75 Rivalry Rock for the first time since 2021. Minnesota Crookston earned their earliest win over a NCAA Division II opponent since 2021. The Golden Eagles are averaging 0.22 goals per game, and allowing 2.39 goals per tilt. Minnesota Crookston is averaging 6.9 shots per tilt, and giving up 18.3 to their foes. • NSIC GOALKEEPER OF THE WEEK. Payton King (Fr., GK, Fairfield, Calif.) is off to a stellar start to her collegiate career. The newcomer has two shutouts in two games, and was named NSIC Goalkeeper of the Week following the shutout against MSU Moorhead. King also picked up an assist, marking the first points for a goalie since Anna Ogaard in 2007. She is the first Goalkeeper of the Week for the program since Jordan Metz in 2024. King has an unblemished 0.00 goals against average, and 18 saves in 180 minutes.

• E IS FOR ELISE. Elise Lefers (So., F, Brookings, S.D.) scored a beautiful goal, the first of her career, to help the Golden Eagles to a 1-0 win over the Dragons. Lefers has played in all three minutes, with one start. She has five shots, with four on goal in 123 minutes. Lefers will look to build on her goal-scoring portfolio heading into the weekend.

• FINCHTASTIC. Julia Finch (Sr., D/MF, Woodbury, Minn.) scored her first career goal against Black Hills State. The goal was the first of her career. Finch is tied for the team goal-lead with Lefers. The goal was her lone shot through three games. She has started all three games, and been crucial in an outside back role, playing 247 minutes.

• GOEHRING FACILITATING. Lily Goehring (Fr., MF, Hartford, S.D.) has one assist in her young career. Goehring has played all three games, with one start. Goehring started on the wing against the Dragons, and will look to be a key factor whether starting or coming off the bench.

• NEWCOMERS. Minnesota Crookston has several newcomers who have jumped in and made a positive impact through two games. In addition to Phoenix DeBrusk (Fr., GK, Thunder Bay, Ontario) and King in goal, Riley Edemann (Fr., D, Santa Clarita, Calif.) has started two games at center back. Goehring, Aleisha Cortez (Fr., MF, South St. Paul, Minn.), and Norah Lutz (So., D, Dewitt, Mich.) all have come off the bench to make impacts for Minnesota Crookston.

• SETTING THE TONE. Minnesota Crookston captains Tessa VanOverbeke (Jr., D/MF, Hartford, S.D.), Emmah Burnes (Jr., MF, Tulare, Calif.), and Sarah Burgum (Sr., F, Mandan, N.D.) all have vast amounts of experience and are trying to set the tone for a young Golden Eagle squad. VanOverbeke, and Burnes have each started all three games, VanOverbeke as an outside back, and Burnes as a defensive midfielder. Burgum has started two games, but played significant minutes in all games. Burgum comes in with three shots, two on frame.

• NEW ERA. Minnesota Crookston is in a new era of soccer with Head Coach Danny Burstein. Burstein is three games into his time as head coach for the Golden Eagles. Burstein has been an experienced coach. He is coming off a year as an assistant coach at the University of Nevada. He previously spent three seasons at North Dakota. Burstein was the head men's soccer coach in 2020 for the University of Providence in Montana. He has also been an assistant at the University of Providence, and Adams State University. Burstein earned his first win as the Golden Eagle boss last weekend against the Dragons.

• HOME SWEET HOME. Minnesota Crookston is set for their first conference home weekend of 2025 against the Wildcats, and Vikings. Minnesota Crookston loss to Black Hills State 4-1 at home in non-conference play September 7. They are seeking their first conference home win since a 2-1 victory over Upper Iowa University October 7, 2022 at the friendly confines of the Minnesota Crookston Soccer Field.

• WAYNE STATE. Wayne State enters the weekend with a 1-0-2 mark. They have ties with William Jewell College, and Missouri Western State University, and a 5-0 win over Midland University. Five of Wayne State's six goals in 2025 came against Midland. Wayne State comes in averaging 2.00 goals per game. They have been great on the defensive end, allowing just 0.33 goals per game. Wayne State is notching 21.0 shots per game, while allowing 13.3 shots per game to their foes. They have 18 corner kicks, to 13 for their opponents. The Golden Eagles last picked up a positive result against Wayne State with a 1-1 tie in 2017. They last defeated Wayne State October 4, 2014 with a 3-1 win.

• ALL ABOUT ALLEN. Wayne State senior forward Reagan Allen has been the most potent offensive player for the Wildcats through three games. Allen has a goal, and an assist. She leads the team with 11 shots, but only two have been on frame. She has started all three games for the Wildcats.

• DENIED. The Wildcat defense has been great through three games. On the back end, goalie Alexa Hofstetter has started three games, and has a 0.36 goals against average, and a .941 saves percentage. She has 16 saves, and a 1-0-2 mark through three games.

• AUGUSTANA. The Vikings are 2-0-1 entering this weekend. Augustana has wins over Central Oklahoma, and Fort Hays State, and tied Central Missouri 0-0. The Vikings are averaging 1.33 goals per game, and allowing 0.33 goals per tilt defensively. Augustana has 26 shots, for an average of 8.7. They are allowing 9.7 per game to their opponents. The Golden Eagles last defeated Augustana in a 1-0 result October 5, 2014 in Crookston.

• GET IT TO ALLY. Senior midfielder Ally Hamski has been a key player for the Vikings. She has two goals, and an assist in three games. Hamski has five shots, with three on goal, in three starts.

• MADELYN ON THE ATTACK. Madelyn White comes in with two goals, scoring against Central Oklahoma, and Fort Hays State. White has eight shots, with five shots on goal in three starts.
