CROOKSTON, Minn. - The University of Minnesota Crookston soccer team fell 5-1 to Augustana University Sunday, September 21 at the Minnesota Crookston Soccer Field. The Golden Eagles put together better passing, and generated more offensive opportunities in the second half, including a 60th minute goal from Autumn Rabe (R-So., MF, Kewaskum, Wis.).
Minnesota Crookston dropped to 1-3-1 (0-2-0 NSIC) after Sunday's loss. Augustana improved to 4-0-1 (2-0-0 NSIC). The Vikings have a 10-game winning streak dating back to a 1-0 win October 5, 2014. Minnesota Crookston recorded their first goal in the series since October 16, 2016 when Hannah Riveland found the back of the net.
The Vikings notched 19 shots, with 14 on goal. Minnesota Crookston officially had two, with one goal, but did a far better job controlling the center of the park, and moving the ball into the attacking third in the final 45 minutes. The Golden Eagles have three goals just five games into the season, after scoring four for the entirety of the 2024 campaign.
Rabe scored her first career goal. She had an assist as a freshman in 2023. Rabe redshirted the 2024 season. Riley Edemann (Fr., D, Santa Clarita, Calif.) picked up her first career assist. Grace Katter was a nuisance Sunday, as she found her way behind the Golden Eagles center backs. Katter had two goals. Ally Hamski notched a goal, and an assist.
In goal, Payton King (Fr., GK, Fairfield, Calif.) started and allowed three goals, and had three saves in the first 45 minutes. Jordan Metz (So., GK, Lino Lakes, Minn.) came in for the second half, making her 2025 season debut. Metz allowed two goals, and notched five saves Sunday.
Taya Baker had the win, with no goals allowed, and no saves in 45 minutes. Linnea Larson allowed a goal in the second half.
Augustana broke a scoreless tie in the 29th minute. Hamski won a ball near midfield, and played a beautiful ball into the box. King came out to try to make the save, but the ball got behind her where Audrey Parnell put it away to make it 1-0.
The Vikings were awarded a free kick after a foul at the corner of the box. Hamski scored on the penalty kick, for her second goal of the season. Augustana padded their lead in the 44th minute when Addison Burt won the ball, and found Avery Heinz on a run who made a nice touch past King to extend the lead to 3-0.
The Golden Eagles answered in the 60th minute off a beautiful free kick from Edemann, who threaded the needle to Rabe, who pushed the ball past Larson to cut the deficit to 3-1.
Augustana widened the gap to 4-1 in the 71st minute as Halle Miller quickly played Avery Nelson at the center stripe, who found Katter for the volley.
The Vikings cemented their win 5-1 when Katter scored her second goal of the game in the 88th minute off assists from Madelyn White, and Ella Weide.
Minnesota Crookston hit the road to face the University of Sioux Falls Friday, September 26 in Sioux Falls, S.D.
